NRL Round 4 Saturday Live Updates and Results
The Bulldogs put together an epic defensive performance to beat the Sharks, with a surprise star stealing the show. Here are 10 SuperCoach takeaways from Super Saturday.
Canterbury-Bankstown put together an epic defensive performance to down Cronulla at Shark Park to finish off a fantastic Super Saturday in the NRL.
Check out the 10 takeaways SuperCoaches should have from round 4’s Saturday action.
1. St George Illawarra were incredible defensively. Melbourne were parked on their tryline for periods of the game but the Dragons repelled them again and again. It’s the first time St George have beaten Melbourne twice in a row for the first time since their first two clashes in 1999. Melbourne had 46 tackles in the Dragons 20m zone but were kept to their lowest score against St George since 2011.
2. If you haven’t got Clint Gutherson in your SuperCoach side then you need to have a good think about the decisions you make in your life. Incredibly he was only given 48 points to sneak into the top 10 but he was the best player on the park by a mile.
3. The only thing St George need to focus on is the penalty count. The Dragons conceded nine penalties and it just welcomes pressure.
4. Jake Clifford was the best player on the ground, scoring two tries that turned the game on its head. He started the season in the Qld Cup but he is improving each week.
5. The Raiders have to do everything in its power to keep Jamal Fogarty. Canberra coach Ricky Stuart said in his pre-game interview that he would give Fogarty the green light to leave if a rival came with money he couldn’t refuse but the mentor was clear that he wanted to retain the playmaker. Fogarty’s kicking game was nothing short of brilliant.
6. Tom Dearden played a real captain’s game for North Queensland and was rewarded with his 80 SuperCoach points. He was in everything positive for the Cowboys and got a try as a just reward.
7. Crichton’s goal-kicking woes were a lone blight for the Bulldogs, as he missed two very gettable attempts early.
A try of his own early in the second half counteracted some of the damage for SuperCoaches, but nonetheless his confidence in front of goal is something to watch.
8. Both team’s defensive lines were rock solid for large portions of this match.
While there were ultimately more leakages for the Sharks, they still only conceded four times even while their goal line was peppered by the Bulldogs.
9. Jacob Preston put together an inspired SuperCoach performance, racking up 125 points and making any coaches with him in their line-up very pleased with the production from the second-rower.
10. Nicho Hynes had another mediocre showing, scoring just 59 points on this outing in a subpar performance for the half back.
