NRL Round 15 team lists: SuperCoach analysis, huge calls on Lachlan Galvin, David Armstrong

SuperCoaches have big decisions to make on three of the best cheapies in SuperCoach this year – Lachlan Galvin, David Armstrong and Blaize Talagi.

SuperCoach NRL Podcast: Live Teams Reaction Round 15

SuperCoach experts Tom Sangster and Rob Sutherland analyse the round 15 team announcements.

WINNERS FROM TEAMS

* Nicho Hynes HFB $984,100 and Dylan Edwards FLB $950,500 - Two extremely popular SuperCoach players named to return from injury. Both are playing for Origin spots so expect plenty of involvement. Nicho is a definite VC option in the first game of the round, while Edwards is captaincy material in the last.

* Shaun Johnson HFB $710,500 and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck FLB $549,100 - Two key returns for the Warriors, who just so happen to cover the next big bye. Johnson is back from a sternum injury and could be very affordable next week (BE 155). RTS is on the extended bench as he aims to return from a hamstring issue.

LOSERS FROM TEAMS

* Apisai Koroisau HOK $555,800 - Named at halfback for the Tigers with Lachlan Galvin and Jayden Sullivan both injured. While this basically guarantees Api won’t play Origin, his defensive workload will be down, so there’s now a big reliance on attacking stats.

* David Armstrong CTW/FLB $451,600 - Misses last week with a quad injury, named on the extended bench this week and has now asked for an immediate release. Won’t play round 16 and has all but peaked (BE 19), so he’s a serious sell option. The only issue is that there are no decent cheapies to downgrade to, although upgrade options in the backline are plentiful.

* Lachlan Galvin 5/8 $551,700 - At odds with his team (or at least his manager clearly is) and injured. I was hoping to hold Galvin as a decent backup five-eighth for a little longer but it is time to sell, particularly with Cody Walker calling (more below).

BUY

* Latrell Mitchell FLB $834,100 - Did very Latrell Mitchell type things on the weekend putting up towering bombs that led to tries, midfield bombs that turned the ball over needlessly, damaging would-be defenders with powerful runs and then standing gassed in the midfield and pointing, always pointing.

The good most definitely outweighed the bad for Mitchell and he’s a popular buy this week. The risk is Origin selection. Whispers suggest NSW coach Michael Maguire is not the biggest fan of Mitchell, but can he ignore this form? If not selected for NSW then Mitchell has a good draw missing only round 17 between here and home. If he is picked for the Blues then he will only play two of the next five rounds. Tricky one.

* Jahrome Hughes HFB $674,000 - In a tough weekend my decision to bring Jahrome Hughes into the Beasts was a rare win. Hughes scored 117 points with a try, try assist, three linebreak assists and two try contributions (along with sundry other points). The big score (which matched his BE) and reasonable draw (Warriors, Dolphins, Raiders, Wests Tigers) should ensure Hughes holds value until he becomes a trade option ahead of his round 19 bye - coincidentally that’s when Nathan Cleary is due back!

* Addin Fonua-Blake FRF $737,800 - Another game another try for the Warriors big man with Fonua-Blake almost hitting his BE which was a bit of a bummer for those - like me - who were hoping to pick him up at a discounted price. Has the Storm this week and a BE of 100+ so you probably are paying a little overs. He also misses the round 19 big bye, but I won’t talk anyone out of buying AFB.

* Joe Tapine FRF $616,100 - If your funds don’t stretch to AFB then can I interest you in Joe Tapine? A renowned improver over the second-half of the season, Tapine seems to be starting his winter surge having scored 75 against the Roosters in round 12 (with a try assist) and 110 against the Dolphins in round 13 (80+ in pure base). The only blemish is that the Raiders don’t play round 19 but the price is right and so is his pedigree. Get on.

* Cody Walker 5/8 $597,300 - Is Cody back? It certainly appears so. Walker scored 99 in round 11 and then backed that up with 103 points against the Titans last week getting the better of Dave Fifita in their running battle. Appears to be behind a few in the Origin pecking order and the Rabbitohs play BOTH big bye rounds 16 and 19, so barring injuries to those ahead of him he will be a nice piece in those weeks. Popular five-eighth Lachlan Galvin looks set for a stint on the sidelines as he deals with a hand injury and you can trade him to Walker for less than $50K difference. Do it.

WORD OF WARNING

* Zac Lomax CTW $736,100 - A word of warning for those hopping on Lomax after his monster score against the Wests Tigers. That word is draw. His bye/Origin situation is half of that issue - Lomax will miss two of the next five rounds due to Origin/byes. Then there’s his draw which runs: Manly (10th best defence), Bye/Origin, Dolphins (5th best defence), Roosters (6th best defence), Origin, Panthers (best defence), Storm (third best defence), Bulldogs (second best defence).

HOLD

* Joshua Curran 2RF/FRF $530,000 - Copped a bad concussion on the weekend but has the bye this week so we were already planning to be without him. Hopefully he rests up over the bye and is available for next week’s tough bye. Curran’s DPP makes him a useful backup third FRF/5th 2RF in final teams.

* Matt Burton 5-8/HFB $719,500 - Burton has been very, very consistent and while he only scored 39 last week he was a couple of officious referee whistles away from scoring 80+. His DPP works really nicely with Dylan Brown and being able to rotate the two could be very handy.

* Blaize Talagi CTW $604,800 - The fifth most popular sell and on some level it makes sense given the BE of 44 means he’s close to peaking after a massive $400,500 rise, and he doesn’t cover the next big bye. But his job security finally seems decent following the season-ending injury to Bailey Simonsson and he averages 71 in 80 minute games this year, which is keeper territory. At least hold until next week when he have more knowledge on which players will and won’t play the bye.

SuperCoach NRL Buy, Hold, Sell Round 15

SELL

* Bulldogs - Jacob Preston’s injury is better than first thought – he will likely miss 2-4 weeks – but that means he doesn’t cover round 16 and is therefore a sell. Sam Hughes is the cheapie that never quite came on, sell. Jaeman Salmon has peaked in price and should be sold soon. Max King did a job but with the team on the bye and the likes of Tapine available at a juicy price, he needs to go too.

PAP ON ICE FOR ANOTHER WEEK

Ryan Papenhuyzen could be back on the field in just over a week as Melbourne eye off naming the fullback to make his comeback from a broken leg against the Dolphins in round 16.

Papenhuyzen hasn’t played since suffering a fracture in the lower part of his leg against the Gold Coast in early-May.

There was an outside chance he would make his return against the Warriors on Saturday night in Auckland. However, it is understood he is now more likely to make his comeback against the Dolphins.

Papenhuyzen’s comeback is likely to mean that excitement machine Su’a Faalogo switches to the interchange bench.
