SuperCoach NRL: Six things learnt from Knights vs Titans, Rabbitohs vs Broncos

While Latrell Mitchell produced the biggest play of the season, a hardworking teammate is set to come under the SuperCoach spotlight. Here are the six things learnt from Friday Night Footy.

"Two weeks ago he'd be in the sin bin"

Quite an extraordinary edition of Friday Night Footy is in the books.

Newcastle managed to blow a 20-0 lead at the hands of the struggling Titans in the opener.

Then it was Brisbane’s turn to channel the 2016 Golden State Warriors, leading 14-0 at halftime before failing to score a point in the second half in their loss to South Sydney.

Here are the six SuperCoach learning from Friday Night Footy:

PONGA IS NOT BACK

Those who have stuck solid with Kalyn Ponga thought the tide had turned after his near-century last week.

How wrong they were.

He, and the Knights, went cold as ice in the second half to leave the fullback with a below-par score of 35, falling short of his 38 breakeven.

Loyalty can only take you so far…… or can it?

PAY THE BELIEVERS

Many held solid with Jayden Campbell while he was sidelined with injury.

He repaid their faith in a big way, finishing with a very nice score of 88.

Accurate goalkicking helped, but with just one try assist its safe to say more big scores are on the horizon.

UNDER THE RADAR

Jacob Saifiti is quietly mounting a case as a budget front row option over the Origin period.

After scoring 59 last week, he posted 65 tonight on the back of his strong carries and defence.

His price has dropped to just $361,500 and you can expect him to be in more than just 1% of teams next week.

MAN IN THE MIDDLE

Keaon Koloamatangi looked great in the middle for Souths, and he did last year when he spent time at lock.

After his showing tonight you can expect him to stay in the front row as he relishes the increased workload.

He was one of just three Rabbitohs players to score more than 20 points at the half, and finished with a very solid 75.

TOUGH BREAK

It got lost in the hysteria of Latrell Mitchell’s heroics, but Jamie Humphreys’ return missed the mark for Souths.

A few negative stats cruelled his score, finishing with just 4 for the game.

Brisbane having the early running and the second half conditions didn’t suit, but it’s still a tough one to take if he was in your team.

80 MINUTE MAN

Keep an eye on Brendan Piakura.

For the second week in a row he played 80 minutes on an edge, and for the second-straight week he has produced season-best scores.

After a score of 52 last week, he produced a 67 after a mammoth effort, seeing him finish behind just Payne Haas and Pat Carrigan in terms of metres from Brisbane’s forwards.
