Buy, Hold, Sell round 20: NRL SuperCoaches scramble for Dylan Lucas replacement

Injuries to Newcastle’s Dylan Lucas and Melbourne’s Ryan Papenhuyzen will blow apart plenty of NRL SuperCoach backlines this week.

Injuries to Dylan Lucas and Ryan Papenhuyzen will blow apart plenty of SuperCoach backlines this week.

Meanwhile, Dylan Brown’s switch to hooker has been branded “absolutely pointless” and he’s a priority sell.

Here’s the lie of the land for NRL SuperCoach round 20.

SELL

* Dylan Lucas - The popular CTW/2RF is out for the season due to a foot injury and will therefore be the most sold player this week. “It doesn’t look good,” said coach Adam O’Brien.

* Dylan Brown - It’s fair to say his move to hooker was a SuperCoach failure. Or as Michael Ennis put it in commentary, “absolutely pointless”. With just 11 points in 36 minutes, Brown is clearly out of favour after signing with the Knights for next season.

* Ryan Papenhuyzen - Obviously we await more news on Pap’s calf injury, which has now seen him miss two weeks. But it’s becoming a frustrating wait.

* Lyhkan King-Togia - A popular sell last week, LKT is averaging just 26 in his last two games.

* Josiah Karapani - The popular cheapie has reached peaked at a profit of almost $200K.

HOLD

* Nathan Cleary - It was looking shaky for SuperCoaches when Cleary was benched by the Panthers, plus no goalkicking duties. But Cleary banged out 79 in a match-turning performance.

* Payne Haas - Rested by the Broncos as he battles an ongoing back injury. But coach Michael Maguire says the injury is not serious, so we should get Haas back to full impact over the coming weeks after a rough Origin series.

BUY

* Valentine Holmes 68 - SuperCoaches are on the hunt for a replacement for Dylan Lucas and Holmes fits the bill. Coming off Origin heroics and 68 points against the Roosters, Holmes’ consistency is highlighted by almost identical season, three-game and five game averages - 75.4, 79 and 79.8. He has only scored below 58 once.

* Zac Lomax - Had a shocker in actual NRL against the Panthers with two diabolical missed tackles leading directly to tries. But missed tackles only count for -1 in SuperCoach and Lomax still managed to bang out 80. Some of the best base going around for all of SuperCoach, let alone CTW. Jacob Kiraz, Reuben Garrick and POD option Bradman Best will also be popular.

* Cameron Munster - Those looking to sell LKT or Brown should look no further. Rested up over the weekend to mourn the passing of his father and set to come home strong.

* Blayke Brailey - Connor Watson and Harry Grant were all the rage last week. But SuperCoaches overlooked Brailey, who notched 117 points on the weekend and has the most points of any hooker this year by a long way.

* Tanah Boyd - Set to be the most popular cheapie of the week after a strong Warriors debut (64 including three try contributions). Has the goalkicking, plus strong job security following a season ending injury to Luke Metcalf.

* Nuffs - It’s well-and-truly nuffing season and here are the best options. Who you choose depends mainly on which positions you need flexibility - Kalani Going (2RF/HOK), Myles Martin (2RF/FRF), Ethan Roberts (2RF/FRF) and Kane Bradley (2RF/CTW).

PODS

* Tom Trbojevic - All the fuss at CTW could see plenty miss out on a SuperCaoch great. Turbo is playing centre but roaming all over the field, plus looking back to somewhere near full fitness. His 123 last start was impressive and he costs just $564,800.

* Latrell Mitchell - Latrell is Latrell. He’s significantly down on his averages from the last two seasons and we know what he can do when he’s in a mood.
