The Manly Sea Eagles are reportedly set to make a play for out-of-favour Gold Coast Titans halfback Tanah Boyd as a potential successor for Daly Cherry-Evans.

Cherry-Evans has been the mainstay in the Sea Eagles’ line up, tallying 329 games for the club over 14 seasons

The Manly skipper has achieved everything in the game, winning a title in his debut season in 2011, winning the Clive Churchill medal in 2013 as just the third player to claim the award from a losing team.

He has also been a mainstay and captain of the Queensland side particularly since 2018, as well as tallying 21 matches for Australia.

However, at 35, Cherry-Evans is closer to the end of his career than the start and the club have been looking to get their succession planning in order before he pulls the plug.

The Sydney Morning Herald have reported the Sea Eagles are looking at Boyd, who has played 69 first-grade matches but has seemingly fallen down the pecking order on the Gold Coast.

Despite being contracted for another season, Boyd has been given permission to negotiate with other clubs as the Titans have the likes of Kieran Foran, Jayden Campbell, AJ Brimson and rugby defector Carter Gordon on the books.

The Sea Eagles have no shortage of halves either with the likes of Jake Arthur, Australian under-18s rugby fly half Joey Walsh and former Wests Tigers youngster Onitoni Large, as well as Luke Brooks, who played five-eighth in 2024.

Cherry-Evans is contracted for another season next year but has yet to decide whether he will walk away from the game after that.

Boyd has been shuffled between halfback, five-eighth and hooker in his career but sees the No. 7 as his preferred position.

Love Rugby League reported that Boyd had been shopped to Super League clubs as well so the Sea Eagles may not be the only club sniffing around the 24-year-old.
