ISRAEL Folau may be subject to heated debate over whether he should be allowed to play in the Gold Coast competition but there have been plenty of NRL stars line up over the years. 

Here are some of the NRL stars to line up on the Gold Coast in recent years.

BEN HANNANT - March 2018

DUAL NRL premiership winner Ben Hannant has made a successful return to football, helping lead the Burleigh Bears to a second straight win that has put them on the top of the Intrust Super Cup ladder.

Hannant came off the bench and play in the front row for the Bears during their Round 2 25-12 win over the Redcliffe Dolphins at Pizzey Park.

GUESS who’s back?

Former Maroons and Titans workhorse Ash Harrison will resurrect his rugby league career on the Gold Coast this year – and he means business.

Harrison has agreed to pull on the boots to play for the Tugun Seahawks, where his sons Ethan and Will play juniors.

FORMER Titans centre Clinton Toopi has answered a call to help out Rugby League Gold Coast battlers Ormeau.

Toopi has joined the Shearers to assist head coach Julius Kuresa and even pulled on the boots against Runaway Bay.

ONCE Todd Carney’s Byron Bay Red Devils contract expires at the end of 2021, the polarising former NRL star plans to take his talents to the Gold Coast, where, he says, he wants to begin his rugby league coaching journey.

Carney, 34, is on the final leg of a three-year deal with the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League club, which he will captain-coach this year.

CURRUMBIN have pulled off the biggest coup of the Rugby League Gold Coast season, agreeing to terms with former NRL prodigy Daniel Mortimer.

The deal, which only became official on Wednesday after clearance documents were approved, is a massive boost to the 2018 minor premiers.

Former NRL bad boy Anthony Watts, who had ties with the notorious Finks and Mongols bikie gangs, found himself in strife in 2013 when he was given an eight-match ban for allegedly biting an opponent’s penis while playing for the Tugun Seahawks against Runaway Bay in a Gold Coast Rugby League preliminary final that year.
