NRL superstar Tom Trbojevic set for month on sidelines

The Sea Eagles had just begun to shake off their slow start to the season but now they’ll have to do without their best player for a month.

Sea Eagles superstar Tom Trbojevic is set to miss four weeks of football after injuring his knee during Manly’s 25-6 win over Canberra on Saturday.

Trbojevic underwent scans on Monday, which revealed an MCL tear which will require surgery.

Despite his injury, the reigning Dally M medallist managed to play the full 80 minutes, running for a game-high 289m and scoring a try. For his efforts, he banked three Dally M points.

The injury looms as a devastating blow for the Sea Eagles, who had only just begun to shake off their slow start to the season.

The win over the Raiders was Manly’s second in a row and was the first game of the season in which the side had scored more than two tries.

In his four weeks away from the game, Trbojevic will miss big clashes with the fourth-placed Cronulla Sharks and last year’s runners-up, the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The Sea Eagles are no certainty to triumph in the other two games Trbojevic will miss – the Newcastle Knights and Gold Coast Titans both sit above Manly on the ladder after four rounds.

Trbojevic has an extensive injury history, having not played more than 20 games in a season since 2018.

He famously missed the opening rounds of the 2021 season after tearing his hamstring running up Manly corso.

The year before that, Trbojevic played just seven games after suffering hamstring and shoulder injuries.
