SuperCoach NRL: Friday night Winners, Losers from Storm vs Bulldogs, Broncos vs Dolphins

Friday night footy had amazing comebacks, stars returning and some incredible SuperCoach scores. We take a look at the 20 winners and losers from Storm vs Bulldogs, Broncos vs Dolphins.

SuperCoach NRL Podcast: Game Day Round 6

It feels like it’s said every week, but what a Friday night that was!

Melbourne did the near impossible and snatched a late victory again at AAMI Park in a game that Canterbury didn’t deserve to lose.

Then the Broncos flipped the switch with a second half rampage to end the Dolphins winning run and claim ownership of Brisbane once again.

With SuperCoach in mind there were some big scores, some encouraging performances that will catch the eye for trades next week, and some efforts that will have coaches looking to trade players out ASAP.

Here are the Winners and Losers from Friday night footy.

SUPERCOACH WINNERS

1. Josh Addo-Carr (165 pts) - Who else but the Foxx. He was unstoppable in the second half.

2. Bronson Xerri (84 pts) - With competition for spots alive, he might’ve just solidified his position.

3. Xavier Willison (81 pts) - Great output from a pre-season favourite. Rewarded with some good minutes.

4. Cameron Munster (92 pts) - Had just 42 last week, but showed he is back with 92 and enters the conversation as the top 5/8 in the game.

5. Matt Burton (81 pts) - After his massive score last week he backed it up in style.

6. Viliame Kikau (66 pts) - He’s a few plays away from posting an incredible score.

7. Alec MacDonald (68 pts) - Called on to play big minutes and got the job done.

8. Patrick Carrigan (66 pts) - Earned his points the old fashioned way. Reliable as ever.

9. Corey Oates (69 pts) - After scoring 43 in his first two weeks, he scored huge. Job security is a major concern but if you own him, enjoy the win tonight.

10. Jaeman Salmon (50 pts) - One of the most owned players in the game and posted his best score of 2024.

SUPERCOACH LOSERS

1. Tristan Sailor (6 pts) - Saw limited time. With Walsh back it’s hard to see him getting valuable minutes

2. Will Warbrick (18 pts) - Was beaten all ends up by Addo-Carr. Rough game for him.

3. Josh Kerr (17 pts) - Averaged close to 60 coming into the game, but this was a big drop.

4. Jesse Arthars (22 pts) - Had a solid game, but it didn’t translate to a strong SC score.

5. Tyran Wishart (10 pts) - Hard to see how he will score worthwhile points going forward.

6. Drew Hutchison (27 pts) - Didn’t set the world on fire and Bailey Hayward looked strong.

7. Jamayne Isaako (46 pts) - With scores of 47 and 46 now, the big priced CTW is proving costly.

8. Tesi Niu (28 pts) - Found the going hard and will be sweating to hold his spot.

9. Harry Grant (55 pts) - It was a solid score, but owners are still waiting for that huge game from him.

10. Stephen Crichton (41 pts) - The move to fullback worked for Joey Manu’s score, not so much for Crichton.

BRONCOS VS DOLPHINS

FULL-TIME - Broncos 28-14: Jamayne Isaako turned Tristan Sailor inside out close to the line to give the Dolphins another try inside the final four minutes to add further respectability to the scoreline.

It was too little, too late however with the Broncos doing their damage in a 25-minute window on either side of halftime to claim an emphatic victory.

Over 46,000 fans packed into Suncorp Stadium to witness Brisbane claim its third win of the season and make a big statement in the process.

Despite the dominance of the Broncos, the Dolphins made up six of the top 10 SuperCoach pointscorers from the night.

TOP SUPERCOACH SCORES

1. Selwyn Cobbo 81

2. Xavier Willison 80

3. Corey Oates 69

4. Patrick Carrigan 66

5. Kodi Nikorima 61

6. Jack Bostock 58

7. Mark Nicholls 53

8. Euan Aitken 53

9. Jarrod Wallace 50

10. Kenny Bromwich 50

76th minute - Broncos 28-10: The Dolphins have been great to start the season, but they’ve been brought back to earth emphatically.

The loss of Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow proved a huge blow and with just six minutes left, the Broncos have claimed honours with an unassailable lead.

Jack Bostock gives them a late consolation try to cut the margin back a bit.

Top scores: Cobbo 80, Willison 77, Oates 70, Carrigan 65

63rd minute - Broncos 28-4: And just like that, Brisbane still belongs to the Broncos.

Another error from the Dolphins has proved costly, well in this case fatal, with an error from Anthony Milford seeing Selywn Cobbo race 70m for his second try of the night.

If the Dolphins don’t cut the errors out of their game this could get very ugly in an instant.

Top scores: Willison 77, Cobbo 67, Carrigan 56, Oates 48

58th minute - Broncos 22-4: The Broncos create something out of nothing with some blistering speed.

Tesi Nui couldn’t contain a bat-back from Jack Bostock, with the ball falling to Jock Madden, who found Jesse Arthars on the run, before handing it off to Reece Walsh who runs 75m to score.

From the very next set, Kodi Nikorima was unable to contain a Jock Madden bomb, with Preston Riki grubbering the ball ahead for Selwyn Cobbo to blow the score out further.

Top scores: Willison 66, Carrigan 55, Oates 48, Mam 45

48th minute - Broncos 10-4: Hearts were in mouths of Brisbane fans, but Corey Oates has restored faith.

He had to get low to catch a brilliant cutout from Ezra Mam. But the big man delivered to go over untouched and stretch the lead of the Broncos.

Top scores: Willison 58, Carrigan 55, Oates 49, Mam 43

HALFTIME - Broncos 6-4: Xaver Willison has made a big impact off the bench.

A simple pass from hooker Tyson Smoothy sees him crash over from close range to give the Broncos the lead in the shadows of halftime.

Anthony Milford was placed on report for a late shot on Reece Walsh, however no penalty was given to the Broncos due to a prior infringement.

Jaiyden Hunt almost extended the lead in the 40th minute, only to drop the ball in the in-goal area.

It’s been an unhappy night for Corey Oates. He has three errors and a penalty conceded already.

Kodi Nikorima is playing at fullback in the absence of Tabuai-Fidow, who had his night ended after 22 minutes.

TOP SUPERCOACH SCORES

1. Xavier Willison 52

2. Patrick Carrigan 48

3. Jarrod Wallace 36

4. Kenny Bromwich 34

5. Billy Walters 34

6. Corey Jensen 30

7. Kodi Nikorima 30

8. Euan Aitken 29

9. Mark Nicholls 29

10. Ray Stone 28

28th minute - Dolphins 4-0: Jarrod Wallace of all people has come off the bench to score the opening try.

Corey Oates spills a bomb, Kenny Bromwich picks up the loose ball and passes to a rampaging Wallace to finally get the scoreboard ticking over.

In massive injury news, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has come from the field with a hamstring complaint with Anthony Milford taking his place.

He won’t return tonight.

Top scores: Carrigan 30, Nicholls 29, K Bromwich 29, Walters 29

20th minute - 0-all: An acrobatic attempt from Jesse Arthars that would’ve made highlight reels all over the world was denied for a knock-on.

Great effort from Jack Bostock to put enough pressure on him to force the mistake.

Another attempted try from the Broncos has been waved away from the referees with Reece Walsh deemed to be offside from an Ezra Mam kick.

Jesse Bromwich has come from the field after copping an accidental elbow from Fletcher Baker. Jarrod Wallaces replaces him.

Top scores: Nicholls 26, Nikorima 26, Jensen 25, K Bromwich 24

10th minute - 0-all: The Dolphins have had all the running early on, earning a couple of repeat sets with some nice kicks that the Broncos have had no answer for.

Brisbane gets a reprieve with Jesse Bromwich fumbling possession inside the 10m.

Kodi Nikorima has 14 SuperCoach points early on with Mark Nicholls and Corey Jensen on 11 apiece.

8PM: The Broncos remain 1-17 from the side named on Tuesday, but the Dolphins have a key out ahead of the derby.

As noted yesterday in our Late Mail, Thomas Flegler is out with Mark Nicholls (FRF $500,900) moving into the starting front row spot with debutant Lachlan Hubner (2RF, $204,300) coming onto the bench.

Fan favourite Reece Walsh (FLB $750,600) returns early from a facial facture and will be sporting a headgear at the back.

STORM VS BULLDOGS

FULL-TIME - Storm 16-14: They’ve done it again.

Melbourne are officially the comeback kings after they pull another rabbit out of the hat at AAMI Park.

Shawn Blore was the man to get them over the line this time, denying a courageous Canterbury the upset of the season.

TOP SUPERCOACH SCORES

1. Josh Addo-Carr 165

2. Cameron Munster 92

3. Bronson Xerri 84

4. Matt Burton 81

5. Shawn Blore 80

6. Jacob Kiraz 71

7. Alec MacDonald 68

8. Viliame Kikau 66

9. Ryan Papenhuyzen 64

10. Jahrome Hughes 61

74th minute - Bulldogs 14-10: Canterbury is holding solid for the moment but needs to dig deeper to hold off Melbourne.

We know the Storm have a strong finish in them, especially at AAMI Park. Who will prevail?

64th minute - Bulldogs 14-10: It’s all the Foxx.

Josh Addo-Carr has a hat-trick after a lovely cutout pass from Matt Burton catches Will Warbrick way out of position and the Foxx touches down for his third try in the space of 14 minutes.

He’s up to an incredible 163 points for the night.

59th minute - 10-all: What are we seeing here?!

Now Melbourne have been reduced to 12 with Ryan Papenhuyzen sent to the sin bin for a professional foul on Stephen Crichton.

From the very next set the Bulldogs go over in the left-hand corner as Josh Addo-Carr scores his second with a lovely put down.

Addo-Carr is up to a very cool 110 SuperCoach points.

55th minute - Storm 10-6: Big turning point here.

The Bulldogs have been reduced to 12 men for 10 minutes after Sam Hughes applied a forearm to the head of Christian Welch.

Silly play that could halt Canterbury’s momentum.

50th minute - Storm 10-6: Both teams have started the half well but the Bulldogs have first points of the second stanza.

They’ve looked good every time they’ve gone left, and surprise surprise they get a result.

Bronson Xerri gets some space out wide and puts Josh Addo-Carr down the sideline to burn off Melbourne, scoring his first try of the season.

Bailey Hayward is stepping into halfback at times and looking good in doing so.

The Foxx has 79 SuperCoach points and Xerri sits on 77.

HALFTIME - Storm 10-0: The scoreline is comfortably in favour of the Storm but the Bulldogs have been up for the fight.

They’ve shown promise but the last option has let them down throughout the first 40 minutes.

There’s no doubt they are right in this contest.

TOP SUPERCOACH SCORES

1. Bronson Xerri 53

2. Ryan Papenhuyzen 51

3. Josh Addo-Carr 46

4. Viliame Kikau 45

5. Cameron Munster 42

6. Xavier Coates 38

7. Reimis Smith 38

8. Jahrome Hughes 37

9. Josh King 35

10. Harry Grant 33

35th minute - Storm 10-0: Some positive news for both the Storm and Bulldogs.

Bailey Hayward is on the field for his NRL debut, replacing Josh Curran.

Alec MacDonald has passed his HIA in a big boost for the Storm.

Xavier Coates has 37 SuperCoach points with Josh King up to 32 and Reed Mahoney on 22.

25th minute - Storm 10-0: Xavier Coates, what can’t he do.

After taking a chip kick near the line and being dragged towards the touchline, Coates gets a foot to the ball and keeps it alive on the last, allowing Reimis Smith to pounce on the loose ball and score.

Tui Kamikamica has been ruled out for the rest of the game with a calf injury. What a blow for the towering forward who played just three minutes of the contest.

Alex MacDonald has now come from the field for a HIA with Christian Welch entering the field.

Josh Addo-Carr has quietly risen to 27 SuperCoach points with Bronson Xerri on 25.

15th minute - Storm 6-0: The Bulldogs are playing with Stephen Crichton in the centres and Connor Tracey at fullback. Jacob Kiraz has shifted to the wing.

Despite the slow start the Bulldogs are working into the game well and getting some vital possession inside Storm territory.

Josh Addo-Carr almost got Canterbury on the board, but a strong Nick Meaney tackle pushed him over the sideline before he could touch down.

Viliame Kikau is looking dangerous on the right edge and has 17 points.

Ryan Papenhuyzen leads all scorers with 35 SuperCoach points with Cameron Munster on 23.

5th minute - Storm 6-0: Great start from the Storm.

Ryan Papenhuyzen scores in the opening four minutes and Melbourne has the early lead. It came on the back of two early mistakes from Canterbury.

In injury news, Tui Kamikamica is off with Alec MacDonald taking the field in his place.

6PM: And Friday night footy is underway!

Melbourne and Canterbury kick us off at AAMI Park. Will it be the Storm or can the Bulldogs cause an almighty upset?

5.30PM: Who are you rolling with in your SuperCoach team from tonight’s two games?

Just the two for me, with Harry Grant (HOK $703,100) in the first game and Jack Bostock (CTW $480,100) in the second.

It was very tempting to try and trade Reece Walsh (FLB $750,600) into the side with the upcoming draw for Brisbane, but instead I’m sticking solid with Tom Trbojevic and Kalyn Ponga as my two fullbacks.

Eli Katoa (2RF $681,600) has been in outstanding form and was another I gave huge consideration to, but it was too hard to manage his price. He could have another huge game.

Josh Curran (2RF/FRF $518,900) moving into the starting front row spot is a positive for his owners. He’s in over 30,000 teams and was traded in by 4,622 SuperCoaches for this round.

There’s no doubting his popularity and with plenty of traffic set to come from Melbourne’s forwards, they’ll be hoping his base stats can propel him to another strong score.

5PM: Canterbury has been decimated with injuries, leading to a host of changes for tonight’s fixture.

Blake Taaffe, Kurt Mann and Max King are all out, with Poasa Faamausili (FRF $238,900) set to start in the front row.

Josh Addo-Carr (CTW $476,500) returns from a week off to his wing spot and Bailey Hayward (HFB $204,300) makes his NRL debut off the interchange bench.

Josh Curran moves into the front row, Jaeman Salmon starts in the back-row and Jake Turpin earns his first start at lock.

Melbourne remains 1-17 from the side that downed Brisbane in one of the most entertaining games of the season.

It’s a mixed bag for SuperCoaches as injuries and suspensions hit Friday night’s games in Melbourne and Brisbane.

Tom Flegler is a late scratching for the Dolphins, which will hit hard for 19.8% of players who have him on their team.

Lachlan Hubner will make his NRL debut from the bench and could be a good cheapie option going forward.

On the flip side, anyone who kept Broncos fullback Reece Walsh will be cheering as he returns from a facial fracture.

The Battle of Brisbane will miss some heavy hitters but still promises to be an enthralling match-up.

Earlier in the night, the Storm take on the Bulldogs at AAMI Park.

Max King’s late withdrawal could pave the way for Liam Knight’s return to first grade when the squads are narrowed down.

The big news is Stephen Crichton will play fullback in the absence of Blake Taaffe, which means he will certainly get his hands on the ball more.

We’ve all seen what he can do – his average score of 44.8 should blow out.
