The South Sydney Rabbitohs have agreed to stay at Accor Stadium next year to end months of anger and uncertainty over their home ground future.
The Daily Telegraph understands Souths will announce to their members later this week that they will play eight matches at Sydney Olympic Park, one game at the new Allianz Stadium and another three on the road to possibly Perth, Queensland or New Zealand.
Souths have been at war with Venues NSW for months around their future.
Chief executive Blake Solly fought to move to their traditional home and share Allianz Stadium with the Sydney Roosters despite having a long-term contract at Accor.
The Rabbitohs have now agreed to keep their 2023 matches at Accor but at this stage won’t commit to a longer stay.
It is hoped by mid next year the State government makes a decision on whether to spend money at Sydney Olympic Park that was originally promised.
Solly will continue having talks with Venues NSW and the government.
“What we are asking for is a rectangular stadium that brings the fans closer to the action and refurbished corporate suites,” Solly told The Daily Telegraph last week.
“A couple of hundred million dollars. We want to stay at Accor and we are the only people who believe in it and are fighting for the government to upgrade it.
“They have changed their minds four or five times, and are not giving us any response to our request.”
