Melbourne Storm remain hopeful cult hero Sua Fa’alogo could be back in time for finals after scans delivered the worst possible news on his hamstring injury.
Fa’alogo, who suffered the injury while flying down the sideline at AAMI Park on Sunday, could miss up to 12 weeks with a grade three hamstring strain.
The club confirmed the horror news in a statement late on Monday afternoon.
“Sua will commence his rehab program this week, working closely with the Club’s medical and high-performance staff, with the aim of returning at the back end of the season,” the statement said.
Storm coach Craig Bellamy wasn’t hopeful last match and knows the injury could force him to think outside the box with other backline stars including Will Warbrick also sidelined.
“Yeah it didn’t look good when it happened, it didn’t look good when he came off,” Bellamy said.
“I think we’ll certainly have someone playing out of position.
Warbrick has been sidelines for most of the season as he battles issues related to concussion with his return still unclear.
