Meet Mick Robinson, the man who took the photo of Todd Carney ‘bubbling’ in a urinal

THE man behind the infamous Todd Carney “bubbling” photo has spoken about the incident that ultimately ended his mate’s career.

THE man behind the now-infamous Todd Carney photo has spoken about the incident that has led to the likely end of the NRL star’s career.

Mick Robinson, described as a “mate” of Carney’s, took the picture of the Sharks playmaker apparently urinating into his own mouth in the toilets at Cronulla’s Northies.

Robinson then forwarded the picture onto his brother, who says he lost the phone at the races before it ended up on social media, Channel Nine reported.

Explaining how the photo came about, Robinson said: “Couple of young blokes out having beers at a popular nightspot. I’ve gone into the toilet, seen Todd there, asked him if he’d ever heard of a ‘fountain’.

“He’s gone to do it, obviously didn’t know I had my phone there, and I’ve snapped a photo of it.

“The urine never actually went into his mouth.”

Todd Carney’s NRL career appears to be over.
Todd Carney’s NRL career appears to be over.

Carney said “it made me feel sick” when he realised a picture had been taken and made public.

“It was just a prank. The boys have seen me mucking around doing it before. I didn’t think there was a photo going to be taken and definitely didn’t think there would be a photo in the public,” Carney told Channel Nine.

Carney apologised for the image, saying he has not even been able to bring himself to speak to his mother about it.

“I haven’t spoken to her, because she can’t speak to me and I can’t speak to her. It’s just been text messages. They’re the difficult ones,” Carney said.

“As much as it’s hurt Cronulla as a club and my career, it’s hurt my pride and dignity as a person and it’s hurt my mum and sisters.

“My teammates and the passionate Cronulla fans who stuck by me, and my mum and sisters and my friends, the people who have been a part of my career, big or small. I apologise and I say sorry to them.”

Carney also hit out at the Cronulla club, saying he felt “betrayed and lied to” by CEO Steve Noyce.

The 28-year-old went as far as to say that he would not have had his contract terminated if someone other than Noyce — who also sacked him when he was in charge of the Roosters — was at the helm.

“It’s hard to say if it was personal or not, but he was the previous CEO at the Roosters who terminated my contract there,” Carney said.

“If there was someone else in control at the club at this time I don’t think I’d be sacked.

“I just hope this isn’t the end of me as a footballer. I know it’s not the end of me as a person. I’m stronger than that.”
