Manly Sea Eagles young gun Josh Schuster is set to return from injury on Friday night for his first game of the season.

Earlier in the week, Des Hasler named the highly-rated back-rower on an extended bench to face the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

It was then confirmed he had recovered from an ankle injury and was available for selection in the 17.

“(Schuster’s) ankle is now responding really well,” Sea Eagles head physiotherapist Chris Bailey said.

“He’s now returning to training and regaining his fitness and is available for selection this weekend.”

Schuster’s return couldn’t come soon enough for the Sea Eagles, who have been in the grips of an injury crisis in recent weeks.

Tom Trbojevic, Josh Aloiai, Marty Taupau and Dylan Walker are among the regular first graders to have been sidelined.

News of Schuster’s return comes amid rumours that the 20-year-old’s management has been applying more pressure on the Sea Eagles to give him opportunities at five-eighth.

Kieran Foran has been solid at six since rejoining the Sea Eagles last season and, while his contract runs out at the end of the year, indicated in the pre-season that he was feeling fit as ever.

The Sea Eagles confirmed that Andrew Davey (shoulder) and Taniela Paseka (knee) would miss the Rabbitohs clash after suffering injuries against the Sharks last week.

“AD suffered a high-grade AC shoulder joint sprain. He’s currently in a sling recovering from that injury,” Bailey said.

“Paseka sustained a contact injury to his knee which resulted in an MCL injury. He’s now in a brace to recover from that and allow that to heal.”
