League shock: Former NRL player leaves Coast footy

A former NRL player has left a Gold Coast club just weeks before the start of the season.

TWEED are on the lookout for a new chief executive less than three weeks out from the start of the Intrust Super Cup season, with Paul Stephenson resigning to take up a new role with Queensland Rugby League.

With a position in strategy and partnerships in the offing at the QRL, Stephenson will finish up as Seagulls boss on March 20.

The club is expected to release a statement announcing Stephenson’s exit within the next day or two.

His departure comes as Tweed’s ISC squad, who last year reached the finals for the first time since 2014, prepare for their season opener at home to Northern Pride on March 15.

The Seagulls play their final pre-season trial against Burleigh at Pizzey Park on Saturday.
