KFC SuperCoach teams analysis Round 19: Tom Sangster’s top targets
There wasn’t much for KFC SuperCoaches to cheer about on an eventful teams day, but this is something to savour.

Tom Sangster takes a deep dive into the Round 19 NRL teams.
WINNERS
* Greg Marzhew - An injury to Phillip Sami means the KFC SuperCoach cult hero earns a recall on the wing for the Titans. That means more price rises (predicted for another $56,600 this week on top of almost $100,000 already), more tackle busts, more offloads and more Rob Sutherland fanboy comments in next week’s podcast. With Marzhew’s KFC SuperCoach-friendly game, he may even be a play in your 17 this week against the depleted Dragons.
* Nicho Hynes - Retains the fullback spot with Ryan Papenhuyzen to return from the bench. Hynes is therefore a hold for another week, but a likely sell from there. He was the standout captaincy option last round with a massive 166 and has now averaged 112.4 since taking the starting fullback spot. That’s all time areas and right alongside KFC SuperCoach greats Nathan Cleary (114.7) and Tom Trbojevic (129.2).
* Jahrome Hughes - Named for the Storm despite a minor calf issue limiting him to 49 minutes last week. Hughes is clearly the best halfback in KFC SuperCoach right now and will retain the mantle at least until Nathan Cleary returns.
* Reed Mahoney - Returned from injury with a bang last week, notching 98 points including a try and try assist. With Harry Grant (hamstring) still sidelined for the Storm, Mahoney is the most purchased player this week as KFC SuperCoaches look to sure up a problematic hooker position. Noted mainly as a steady defensive hooker in the past, Mahoney has become an attacking weapon in 2021, producing three tries and 11 try assists at a rate only slightly below one per game. However, the most encouraging sign for KFC SuperCoaches is that despite the increased role in attack, his base output has stayed essentially the same this season — he has produced 45 in pure base this year compared to 46 in 2020 and 45 in 2019.
* Payne Haas - After a slow start to the year where he averaged just a tick over 60 for the first 11 games, Haas has banged out 90 and 89 in his last two games. It must be noted however that Haas has benefited from attacking stats in these matches (two try assists each week with accompanying linebreak assists). But even taking out the attacking stats, Haas has seen a noticeable (although not massive) increase in base from 55 to 63. In terms of the eyeball test, Haas appears to have flicked a switch and looks extra motivated, and he’s hard to turn down at a $138,400 discount on his starting price and BE of 18. Haas is the second most purchased player this week and by far the most popular replacement for Tohu Harris (ACL).
* Ryan Matterson - Speaking of Tohu replacements, Matto is the second most popular behind Haas. The consistent Eel is available this week at a $116,300 discount on his starting price. His worth is down due to a tough run in the middle of the season where he produced five scores of 60 or under in eight games. But Matto returned to his attacking best last week with 135 and he now sits with a BE of zero and projected rise of $56,000. This is the week to get on.
* Kalyn Ponga - Named for the Knights despite a concussion last week. 3,200 KFC SuperCoaches jumped on Ponga last week as a super POD. But the head knock meant he netted just nine points and he now sits with a BE of 137. KFC SuperCoach Plus predicts he’ll drop to around $540,000 in three weeks, a discount of $170,000 on his starting price. Hmmmmmmm.
* Tom Trbojevic, James Tedesco, Latrell Mitchell - KFC SuperCoach guns named to return this week after being rested post Origin.
* Jarred Anderson (CTW/2RF), Kayleb Milne (FRF/2RF), Jock Madden (HFB/5/8) - With no clear cheapie this week following the season-ending injury to Xavier Savage (more below), KFC SuperCoaches are advised to skip cheapies altogether and go with nuffs. These are the best of the bunch. Who you choose depends solely on what positions you need to cover.
LOSERS
* Cameron Munster - Rested this week for the Storm and therefore unavailable for the 17 per cent how own him.
* Tohu Harris - Almost 50,000 KFC SuperCoaches were over the moon to see Tohu as a late inclusion last week, back three weeks early from a shoulder injury. Alas, he lasted just 12 minutes before doing his ACL and being ruled out for the season. He’s an obvious sell, although unfortunately his injury-induced scores of 22 and 6 in his last two games have seen his price drop under $500,000 and $123,00 below his starting price.
* Alex Johnston - AJ’s incredible run of 15 tries in six games comes to an end this week with the South Sydney flyer ruled out for 2-4 weeks due to a hamstring injury. He’s a sell for both head-to-head and overall players given he’ll miss at least the next fortnight before tough closing match-ups against the Eels, Roosters and Panthers.
* Taane Milne - Worst possible scenario with Milne demoted to the bench despite seven tries in four weeks. The popular cheapie will therefore become an auto emergency nightmare, although with a break even of -17 it’s worth waiting a week to sell. Even with limited minutes this round his total profit should surpass $300,000.
* Xavier Savage - The young gun and popular cheapie is out for the season with a shoulder injury, just days after announcing himself with a stunning 99. At the time of writing, Savage is the third most popular purchase. Reverse trades. And for those who already own him, the injury could be a blessing in disguise as he simply nuffs out and won’t wreck loophole plans. That said, things could get hairy for those who own all of Savage, Suaalii and Alex Johnston.
* Nathan Cleary - Dad Ivan says son Nathan is aiming for a Round 20 return, meaning he plays six more games this KFC SuperCoach season. Interestingly, coach Cleary also said the club took heart from Reed Mahoney’s brilliant return from a similar injury last round after five weeks out. Translation: Cleary may not be as hampered as we think when he returns.
EELS V RAIDERS
Thursday 22 July, Cbus Super Stadium, 7:50pm
EELS: 1. Clint Gutherson, 2. Maika Sivo, 3. Will Penisini, 4. Waqa Blake, 5. Blake Ferguson, 6. Dylan Brown, 7. Jake Arthur, 8. Reagan Campbell-Gillard, 9. Reed Mahoney, 10. Junior Paulo, 11. Isaiah Papali’i, 12. Ryan Matterson, 13. Nathan Brown
Bench: 14. Marata Niukore, 15. Shaun Lane, 16. Oregon Kaufusi, 17. Will Smith
Reserves: 18. Haze Dunster, 19. Bryce Cartwright, 20. Makahesi Makatoa, 21. Joey Lussick
Team news:Mitch Moses is OUT with a reported back injury. Jakob Arthur again takes his spot at halfback. Blake Ferguson is recalled on the wing after six weeks in NRL exile, replacing Haze Dunster. Young gun Will Penisini earns a centre spot with Tom Opacic rested. Junior Paulo is a key inclusion up front after being rested post Origin. Marata Niukore reverts to the bench and Bryce Cartwright drops out.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: The 5,000 KFC SuperCoaches who sold Clint Gutherson over the last few weeks would be kicking themselves after he notched his fifth ton of the year on the weekend. That said, someone had to go for Turbo, who hopefully repays you this week against the Tigers, while Gutho has 4/7 tough match-ups in the run home against the Roosters, Sea Eagles, Storm and Panthers. Sangster’s Paradise bought Isaiah Papali’i last week and he promptly produced his equal second worst score of the year. Apologies all. Reed Mahoney and Ryan Matterson are both popular purchases this week. See full analysis above.
RAIDERS: 1. Jordan Rapana, 2. Harley Smith-Shields, 3. Jarrod Croker, 4. Sebastian Kris, 5. Semi Valemei, 6. Matt Frawley, 7. Sam Williams, 8. Josh Papalii, 9. Josh Hodgson, 10. Emre Guler, 11. Corey Harawira-Naera, 12. Hudson Young, 13. Ryan Sutton
Bench: 14. Tom Starling, 15. Matthew Timoko, 16. Iosia Soliola 17. Joseph Tapine
Reserves: 18. Caleb Aekins, 19. Ryan James, 20. Siliva Havili, 21. Trey Mooney
Team news:Two big injury blows with young gun Xavier Savage (shoulder) out for the season and Origin star Jack Wighton (ribs) out for a week. Jordan Rapana switches to fullback for Savage with Harley Smith-Shields moving from the forwards to the wing. Matt Frawley replaces Wighton at five-eighth. Matt Timoko earns a bench spot ahead of Ryan James.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: Josh Papalii remains firmly on my radar as a POD. Big Papa scored just 34 in 33 minutes backing up from Origin last week and is now predicted to dip under $500,000 next week. Before last round, Papalii had the second best three-game average of any prop with 77.3 behind only Papali’i of the Parramatta variety, yet Papalii of the Canberra variety is only owned by 10 per cent. See Xavier Savage analysis above.
ROOSTERS V KNIGHTS
Friday 23 July, Sunshine Coast Stadium, 6:00pm
ROOSTERS: 1. James Tedesco, 2. Daniel Tupou, 3. Billy Smith, 4. Joey Manu, 5. Matt Ikuvalu, 6. Drew Hutchison, 7. Sam Walker, 8. Jared Waerea-Hargreave, 9. Sam Verrills, 10. Isaac Liu, 11. Angus Crichton, 12. Sitili Tupouniua, 13. Victor Radley
Bench: 14. Lachlan Lam, 15. Nat Butcher, 16. Egan Butcher, 17. Siosiua Taukeiaho
Reserves: 18. Adam Keighran, 19. Fletcher Baker, 20. Josh Morris, 21. Ben Thomas
Team news: Trent Robinson has pulled a significant shock by dropping veteran Josh Morris. James Tedesco is back after a post Origin rest, pushing Joseph Manu back to centre and Morris out of the side, with youngster Billy Smith retained as the other centre. Siosiua Taukeiaho (hamstring) is a welcome inclusion on the bench in place of Fletcher Baker. Angus Crichton returns to the starting side after playing from the bench last week with Nat Butcher dropping to the interchange.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: James Tedesco is a huge inclusion for a quarter of KFC SuperCoaches after taking a post-Origin rest. That said, with so much talent at fullback this year, my eggs are well-and-truly in other baskets. Angus Crichton is the fifth most popular replacement for Tohu behind Haas, Matterson, Fifita and Mahoney. Crichton showed his SC class last week with 79 off the bench but he should be back to 80 minutes from here on. Taking out IPap, who should be in everyone’s front row, Crichton has the second best average of any back rower behind only Fifita. Joseph Suaalii is the third most sold player after being ruled out for the season. But he’s hardly an urgent sell given nuffing him out would only create $70,000 and he’ll be quite handy as a non-player for VC loophole purposes.
KNIGHTS: 1. Kalyn Ponga, 2. Dominic Young, 3. Kurt Mann, 4. Enari Tuala, 5. Hymel Hunt, 6. Jake Clifford, 7. Phoenix Crossland, 8. Jacob Saifiti, 9. Jayden Brailey, 10. Daniel Saifiti, 11. Tyson Frizell, 12. Mitchell Barnett, 13. Connor Watson
Bench: 14. Sauaso Sue, 15. David Klemmer, 16. Josh King, 17. Brodie Jones
Reserves: 18. Jack Johns, 19. Simi Sasagi, 20. Tex Hoy 21. Lachlan Fitzgibbon
Team news:Origin star Daniel Saifiti (ribs) is a big inclusion at prop. David Klemmer drops to the bench and Jack Johns drops out of the 17. Jacob Saifiti (ankle), Kalyn Ponga and Klemmer (both concussion) have been named but must pass fitness tests later in the week. Lachlan Fitzgibbon drops from the starting second row back to the reserves list with Mitch Barnett taking his spot on the edge and Connor Watson promoted from the bench to lock.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: Jayden Brailey has been on the most sold list for the best part of two months and for Sangster’s Paradise it’s finally time for him to go to Mahoney. There’s also big KFC SuperCoach news in the back row with Mitch Barnett returning to an 80 minute edge role (where he killed it at the start of the year) and Connor Watson named to start at lock. See Kalyn Ponga analysis above.
COWBOYS V STORM
Friday 23 July, Queensland Country Bank Stadium, 7:55pm
Cowboys: 1. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, 2. Kyle Feldt, 3. Murray Taulagi, 4. Connelly Lemuelu, 5. Kane Bradley, 6. Scott Drinkwater, 7. Tom Dearden, 8. Francis Molo, 9. Reece Robson, 10. Jordan McLean, 11. Shane Wright, 12. Mitchell Dunn, 13. Jason Taumalolo
Bench: 14. Tom Gilbert, 15. Heilum Luki, 16. Coen Hess, 17. Jake Granville
Reserves: 18. Lachlan Burr, 19. Michael Bell, 20. Peter Hola, 21. Daejarn Asi
Team news: Javid Bowen (ACL) is out for the season. Murray Taulagi shifts in from the wing to centre with Kane Bradley coming onto the flank for his NRL debut. Peter Hola drops off the bench to accommodate the return of Heilum Luki (suspension).
KFC SuperCoach analysis: Jason Taumalolo is BACK! Well, kind of, sort of, ish. The former KFC SuperCoach great has averaged 73 in the last three weeks which, if it continues, places him among the top 2RFs in KFC SuperCoach. The $512,200 is tempting for a player of his pedigree and he’s essentially a straight swap from Tohu. He’s therefore a genuine option for those unable to create cash. But realistically I’d pay the extra for Fifita, IPap or Crichton, or buy Haas for essentially the same price as Lolo.
Storm: 1. Nicho Hynes, 2. Dean Ieremia, 3. Reimis Smith, 4. Justin Olam, 5. Josh Addo-Carr, 6. Cooper Johns, 7. Jahrome Hughes, 8. Jesse Bromwich, 9. Brandon Smith, 10. Christian Welch, 11. Chris Lewis, 12. Kenny Bromwich 13. Tui Kamikamica
Bench: 14. Aaron Booth, 15. TAaron Pene, 16. Nelson Asofa-Solomona, 17. Ryan Papenhuyzen
Reserves: 18. Trent Loiero, 19. Jordan Grant, 20. Isaac Lumelume, 21. Marion Seve
Team news: Where do we start? Ryan Papenhuyzen (concussion) returns on the bench with Nicho Hynes retaining the fullback spot. Origin players Cameron Munster, Felise Kaufusi and Dale Finucane (concussion) have been given the week off after backing up last week. Josh Addo-Carr, Christian Welch (both rested) and Nelson Asofa-Solomona (suspension) return. Still no Harry Grant (hamstring).
KFC SuperCoach analysis: Cameron Munster takes a break this week but he has certainly caught the eye of the Sangster’s Paradise at 17 per cent ownership, which is quite POD-a-licious for him. While Adam Douiehi is the obvious POD in the position at just four per cent ownership, there’s something comforting in Munster’s pedigree — he’s averaged 74, 70 and 69 in the last three years. Named on the bench and with a break even of 200, Ryan Papenhuyzen will see mass price drops over coming weeks. The timing could be perfect for a pre-finals POD purchase. See Nicho Hynes and Jahrome Hughes analysis above.
RABBITOHS V WARRIORS
Saturday 24 July, Sunshine Coast Stadium, 3:00pm
Rabbitohs: 1. Latrell Mitchell, 2. Josh Mansour, 3. Dane Gagai, 4. Campbell Graham, 5. Jaxson Paulo 6. Cody Walker, 7. Adam Reynolds, 8. Mark Nicholls, 9. Damien Cook, 10. Thomas Burgess, 11. Keaon Koloamatangi, 12. Jaydn Su’A, 13. Cameron Murray
Bench: 14. Taane Milne, 15. Jacob Host, 16. Patrick Mago, 17. Jai Arrow.
Reserves: 18. Braidon Burns, 19. Jed Cartwright, 20. Blake Taaffe, 21. Dean Hawkins
Team news: Jaxson Paulo and Josh Mansour form an all-new wing pairing with Alex Johnston (hamstring) out for 2-4 weeks and Taane Milne dropped to the bench. Latrell Mitchell returns at fullback after a post Origin rest with Blake Taaffe dropping to the reserves. Jai Arrow (Covid breach) returns on the bench in place of Liam Knight (concussion).
KFC SuperCoach analysis: The attacking juggernaut rolled on for the Rabbitohs last week. They haven’t scored below 24 points in the last six games, all wins, with Cody Walker one of the main KFC SuperCoach beneficiaries. Cody could easily have cracked a ton last week if the scorers had been slightly more sympathetic. See Alex Johnston and Taane Milne analysis above.
Warriors: 1. Reece Walsh, 2. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, 3. Adam Pompey 4. Euan Aitken, 5. Marcelo Montoya, 6. Kodi Nikorima, 7. Chad Townsend, 8. Addin Fonua-Blake, 9. Jazz Tevaga, 10. Matt Lodge, 11. Jack Murchie, 12. Bayley Sironen, 13. Josh Curran
Bench: 14. Taniela Otukolu 15. Eliesa Katoa, 16. Bunty Afoa 17. Leeson Ah Mau,
Reserves: 18. Kane Evans 19. Edward Kosi 20. Sean O’Sullivan 21. Ben Murdoch-Masila
Team news: Big changes with Tohu Harris (ACL), Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (concussion), Wayde Egan (shoulder) and Rocco Berry (hamstring) all out. Jack Murchie replaces Tohu on the edge. Kodi Nikorima replaces RTS at five-eighth. Jazz Tevaga replaces Egan at hooker with Josh Curran to play lock. Adam Pompey replaces Berry at centre. Bunty Afoa and Taniela Otukolo join the bench.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: The Warriors have been extremely unlucky with injuries, finishing the weekend game without a bench and losing their heart-and-soul player Tohu Harris. But as we well know, injuries create KFC SuperCoach opportunities. In particular, new prop pairing Addin Fonua-Blake and Matt Lodge have shouldered a massive load with AFB last week notching 78 points in 76 minutes and Lodge playing the full 80 for 116. Both sit in POD range at 11.6 per cent and 5.9 per cent respectively. Hmmmmmm. See Tohu Harris analysis above.
SEA EAGLES V TIGERS
Saturday 24 July, Suncorp Stadium, 5:30pm
Sea Eagles: 1. Tom Trbojevic, 2. Jason Saab, 3. Brad Parker, 4. Morgan Harper, 5. Reuben Garrick, 6. Kieran Foran, 7. Daly Cherry-Evans, 8. Taniela Paseka, 9. Lachlan Croker, 10. Martin Taupau, 11. Haumole Olakau’atu, 12. Josh Schuster, 13. Jake Trbojevic
Bench: 14. Dylan Walker, 15. Josh Aloiai, 16. Sean Keppie, 17. Toaofoa Sipley
Reserves: 18. Moses Suli, 19. Cade Cust, 20. Jack Gosiewski, 21. Kurt De Luis
Team news:The Big Three return with Tom Trbojevic, Daly Cherry-Evans (both rested) and Jake Trbojevic (hip) back in action. Turbo’s return at fullback sees Reuben Garrick move to the wing and Moses Suli drop out. DCE’s return sees Josh Schuster move back to 2RF with Karl Lawton (back) out. Jack Trbojevic takes up his customary No. 13 jumper with Sean Keppie dropping to the bench. Josh Aloiai (wrist) returns from a long lay-off on the interchange. Kurt DeLuis and Cade Cust miss the 17.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: Tom Trbojevic is back in the NRL after a two week hiatus. Sorry to state the obvious, but he’s a must-have for anyone dumb enough to not yet own him (Rob Sutherland). And he’s also a must as captain this week against the Tigers. Reuben Garrick acquitted himself quite well at fullback in place of Turbo, averaging a commendable 64.5. But back on the wing this week, hopefully we see a return to his average of 103 when Turbo is in the side. We warned you two weeks ago about the Jason Saab trade, and well, it turned out exactly as we predicted. Actually, slightly worse than predicted, which we didn’t think was possible. Saab averaged just 11.5 over the last two weeks and his average without Turbo in the side has now dipped below 20.
Tigers: 1. Daine Laurie, 2. David Nofoaluma, 3. Junior Pauga, 4. Tommy Talau, 5. Ken Maumalo, 6. Adam Doueihi, 7. Luke Brooks, 8. Stefano Utoikamanu, 9. Jacob Liddle, 10. James Tamou, 11. Luke Garner, 12. Luciano Leilua, 13. Thomas Mikaele
Bench: 14. Joe Ofahengaue, 15. Alex Twal, 16. Tukimihia Simpkins, 17. Moses Mbye
Reserves: 18. Michael Chee Kam, 19. Jake Simpkin, 20. Alex Seyfarth, 21. Shawn Blore
Team news: No changes after a strong win over the Broncos.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: Adam Doueihi is by far the POD of the week and one of the best PODs of the season. Taking out the six games at centre this year, Doueihi has averaged 84 at five-eighth. That’s six points clear of position leader Cody Walker and 10 points clear of Cameron Munster, yet Doueihi sits at just four per cent ownership. What’s more, he’s the only top five-eighth who kicks goals and he therefore has a good base for the position. I think I’ve just talked myself into it.
PANTHERS V BRONCOS
Saturday 24 July, Suncorp Stadium, 7:35pm
Panthers: 1. Dylan Edwards, 2. Charlie Staines, 3. Stephen Crichton, 4. Matt Burton, 5. Brian To’o, 6. Jarome Luai, 7. Tyrone May, 8. Moses Leota, 9. Apisai Koroisau, 10. James Fisher-Harris, 11. Viliame Kikau, 12. Kurt Capewell, 13. Isaah Yeo
Bench: 14. Mitch Kenny, 15. Scott Sorensen, 16. Spencer Leniu, 17. Liam Martin
Reserves: 18. Brent Naden, 19. Paul Momirovski, 20. Matthew Eisenhuth, 21. Izack Tago
Team news:Origin five-eighth Jarome Luai (knee) is a key inclusion. Matt Burton shifts from the halves to centre with Brent Naden dropping out of the 17. Nathan Cleary continues his rehab on a shoulder injury and is still two weeks away.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: No Nathan Cleary or Jarome Luai yet again. The Panthers struggled for cohesion last week without their two main men. But even so, this remains a match-up to target against the Broncos, who have the worst defence in the competition. That means Matt Burton and maybe even Charlie Staines for a spot in the 17 this week.
Broncos: 1. Tesi Niu, 2. Corey Oates, 3. Kotoni Staggs, 4. Herbie Farnworth, 5. Jamayne Isaako, 6. Tyson Gamble, 7. Brodie Croft, 8. Thomas Flegler, 9. Jake Turpin, 10. Payne Haas, 11. Alex Glenn, 12. Jordan Riki, 13. Kobe Hetherington
Bench: 14. Cory Paix, 15. Rhys Kennedy, 16. Keenan Palasia, 17. TC Robatii
Reserves: 18. Ethan Bullemor, 19. Jesse Arthars, 20. Xavier Willison, 21. Xavier Coates
Team news: Winger Xavier Coates again misses out after sitting out last week’s post Origin clash, named in jersey No. 21. Cory Paix is promoted to the bench in place of Jesse Arthars. Other than that it’s essentially the same 17 as last week, although there’s a forward switcheroo with Thomas Flegler and Jordan Riki promoted to start and Rhys Kennedy and TC Robati back to bench.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: After a rough trot, Tyson Gamble has averaged 53 in the last five rounds and his price will nudge $400,000 in the next few weeks, just in time for a pre-finals nuff out or upgrade to a keeper. Solid gains. See Payne Haas analysis above.
DRAGONS V TITANS
Sunday 25 July, Cbus Super Stadium, 1:50pm
Dragons: 1. Matt Dufty, 2. Jordan Pereira, 3. Gerard Beale, 4. Cody Ramsey, 5. Mathew Feagai, 6. Jayden Sullivan, 7. Ben Hunt, 8. Blake Lawrie, 9. Andrew McCullough, 10. Josh Kerr, 11. Jack Bird, 12. Tariq Sims, 13. Josh McGuire
Bench: 14. Adam Clune, 15. Tyrell Fuimaono, 16. Jamayne Taunoa-Brown, 17. Jack de Belin
Reserves: 18. Kaide Ellis, 19. Talatau Amone, 20. Billy Burns, 21. Tyrell Sloan
Team news: Mass forced changes with Jayden Sullivan, Jordan Pereira, Kaide Ellis, Mathew Feagai, Matt Dufty, Talatau Amone and Tyrell Fuimaono the fresh faces in the squad. Brayden Wiliame, Corey Norman, Jackson Ford and Poasa Faamausili drop out. Changes of note include young gun Sullivan to play five-eighth in place of Norman, while Matt Dufty returns at fullback for rookie sensation Sloan.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: It’s hard to justify owning any Dragons player given the uncertainty created by staggered Covid bans. Young gun Tyrell Sloan has displayed plenty in two games. With an average of 45 he won’t be bottom dollar for 2022 but should still be in cheapie range. Watchlist.
Titans: 1. Alexander Brimson, 2. Greg Marzhew, 3. Brian Kelly, 4. Patrick Herbert, 5. Corey Thompson, 6. Ash Taylor, 7. Toby Sexton, 8. Jarrod Wallace, 9. Mitch Rein, 10. Moeaki Fotuaika, 11. Kevin Proctor, 12. David Fifita, 13. Tino Fa’asuamaleaui
Bench: 14. Tyrone Peachey, 15. Sam Lisone, 16. Jaimin Jolliffe, 17. Beau Fermor
Reserves: 18. Esan Marsters, 19. Sam McIntyre, 20. Tanah Boyd, 21. Jayden Campbell
Team news: Young gun Toby Sexton makes his much-anticipated debut at halfback in place of Jamal Fogarty (hand). Phillip Sami (ankle) is replaced on the wing by Greg Marzhew. Erin Clark (elbow) is replaced at hooker by Mitch Rein.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: David Fifita remains a must-have, particularly with the Tohu injury. Even in a poor game last week in terms of actual NRL, he produced 68 points. And he would have gone close to a ton if not for a disallowed try right on full time. Keep an eye on debutant Toby Sexton as a buy for 2022. The Titans rate Sexton so highly they recently extended his contract until the end of 2024, with the final two years of the deal worth close to a combined $1 million. He must be some talent. Full story by Travis Mayn here.
BULLDOGS V SHARKS
Sunday 25 July, Cbus Super Stadium, 4:05pm
Bulldogs: 1. Nick Meaney, 2. Corey Allan, 3. Will Hopoate, 4. Aaron Schoupp, 5. Jayden Okunbor, 6. Lachlan Lewis, 7. Jake Averillo, 8. Ava Seumanufagai, 9. Jeremy Marshall-King, 10. Jack Hetherington, 11. Corey Waddell, 12. Josh Jackson, 13. Luke Thompson
Bench: 14. Bailey Biondi-Oro, 15. Dylan Napa, 16. Joe Stimson, 17. Ofahiki Ogden
Reserves: 19. Kyle Flanagan, 20. Sione Katoa, 21. Falakiko Manu, 22, Matt Doorey
Team news: Jeremy Marshall-King (suspension) returns at hooker with Sione Katoa dropping out of the 17.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: The fact Jarred Anderson, a nuff, is the second most popular player in this team is an accurate reflection of where they are at. Note to self: To save work, just cut-and-paste this sentence every week for the rest of the year.
Sharks: 1. Will Kennedy, 2. Sione Katoa, 3. Connor Tracey, 4. Jesse Ramien, 5. Ronaldo Mulitalo, 6. Braydon Trindall, 7. Shaun Johnson, 8. Toby Rudolf, 9. Blayke Brailey, 10. Aaron Woods, 11. Siosifa Talakai, 12. Teig Wilton, 13. Jack Williams
Bench: 14. Mawene Hiroti, 15. Royce Hunt, 16. Briton Nikora, 17. Braden Hamlin-Uele
Reserves: 18. Billy Magoulias, 19. Luke Metclaf, 20. Andrew Fifita, 21. Jonaiah Lualua
Team news: The suspension of veteran Sharks prop Aiden Tolman for one week has provided the window of opportunity for hard-running forward Royce Hunt to play his first game in 10 months. Hunt’s career was rocked in round 14 last year when he suffered a dislocated patella (knee cap). Toby Rudolf starts at prop in place of Tolman, Jack Williams takes the No. 13 jumper and Hunt comes onto the bench.
KFC SuperCoach analysis: Shaun Johnson is seemingly uninterested, playing with a niggle and not kicking goals. He’s therefore the seventh most sold player and I’d love to join the crowd if I had trades. Instead, I’m looking at the positives and hoping Buzz’s massive spray and the match-up against the Bulldogs will see a return to form. Kayleb Milne remains a popular nuff with handy FRF/2RF positioning for those looking to swing the likes of IPap, Pangai, JFH, Luke Thompson, Ryan James etc.
