JARRYD Hayne is in grave danger of missing the World All Stars clash on Friday after watching his Titans side crash out of the NRL Nines.

Hayne’s knee swelled up after helping the Titans to consecutive wins on day one, prompting the star fullback to withdraw from finals action on Sunday at Eden Park.

Without Hayne’s attacking wizardry, the Titans bombed out, losing their final pool game against Penrith (22-4) before Parramatta ended their tournament (14-0) in the quarter-finals.

Titans rookie AJ Brimson also injured his knee, but there were greater concerns over the setback that leaves Hayne in doubt for this week’s showdown with the Indigenous All Stars.

Titans coach Neil Henry stressed the injury was not serious but wouldn’t be surprised if Hayne withdraws from the World All Stars side.

“Jarryd has a knee issue,” Henry said.

“It was a bit sore in our first game against Cronulla (on Saturday), he landed awkwardly and it swelled up overnight.

“He has a bit of fluid in his knee and he couldn’t put a lot of pressure on it.

“We don’t think it’s anything major but there was no point risking him.

“I don’t think we’ll have scans, we aren’t that worried about it.

“Jarryd is supposed to be playing in the All Stars but I’d say he is highly unlikely, he is certainly in doubt for it.

“Knees normally take a week or two (to recover) if they blow up. I don’t exactly know what he’s done ... all I know is it’s not serious.”

Henry was pleased to make the knockout stage in a tournament that gave boom halfback Kane Elgey some confidence in his return from a knee reconstruction.

“We’ve had a good tournament,” he said.

“Our young guys like AJ Brimson, Max King and Tyronne Roberts-Davis went well and Kane came back well with his knee.

“We would have liked to have gone further but you really pay for your mistakes in this format.”
