Jaeman Salmon screams ‘weak-gutted dog’ amid Panthers’ Raiders bloodbath

Panthers utility Jaeman Salmon may have out the “weak-gutted dog” scandal behind him, but he sure as hell hasn’t forgotten it happened.

The Penrith Panthers have absolutely obliterated the Canberra Raiders 53-12 in Canberra in easily the biggest win of the season.

The defending premiers were 2-1 with a bye after four rounds but fresh off a loss to the Parramatta Eels last week, the Panthers bounced back perfectly.

It was 13-6 at halftime but the Raiders had no answer in the second half as the Panthers ran riot with a seven tries to one second half.

The match was even sealed by Jaeman Salmon, who yelled “weak-gutted dog” at the crowd.

It refers to the corresponding match last year when Raiders coach Ricky Stuart labelled the interchange utility with the same slur.

And NRL Twitter loved every second of it.

Asked about the moment after the match, Panthers coach Ivan Cleary said simply: “Good karma, that’s how I describe that”.

Despite missing Jack Wighton to suspension and a host of regular starters including Xavier Savage, Nick Cotric and Danny Levi to injury, Raiders coach Ricky Stuart admitted he didn’t see the 40-point second half capitulation coming.

“No, I don’t think anyone did mate,” Stuart said.

He added it was “unacceptable” and didn’t tee off, saying he’d prefer to keep his criticism’s in-house but apologised for the performance.

The performance also drew AAP reporter Scott Bailey’s NRL Twitter famous stat.

The match was the first time Penrith have cracked 20 points this season.

After a stop-start attacking first half which included a Stephen Crichton sin bin, Ivan Cleary’s men laid on a masterclass in the second half against a Raiders team that struggled to find any cohesion.

Without Wighton, the Raiders struggled with their attacking finishes, giving fans a glimpse of what life might be like should the star five-eighth leave the capital after testing the open market.
