THE 2020 NRL All Stars fixture is looming as a possible return match for Titans captain Ryan James as he steps up his comeback from a second knee reconstruction.
Almost five months on from his season-ending injury, James is on track with his rehabilitation after he began running again last month.
The 28-year-old forward, who helped announce next year’s All Stars game would return to the Gold Coast on February 22, has played five times for the Indigenous All Stars and is hoping to add to that tally in 2020.
‘IT’S A BIT OF A S*** FIGHT’ - TITANS GREAT’S DISAPPOINTMENT
“(The knee) is coming good. If I’m selected that (All Stars match) might be my first game back playing footy,” who underwent his first knee reconstruction in 2011, said.
“Everything is travelling to schedule. I’ve started running and I’m feeling strong and healthy.”
Injured in the Round 6 win over Newcastle, James could do little as the Titans’ 2019 season spiralled out of control.
They won just two of their next 18 games to prompt the sacking of coach Garth Brennan in July, but with St Helens mentor Justin Holbrook to take the reigns next season, James is hopeful of a quick turnaround.
“It’s hard to point one thing out (that was the problem). You’re scratching your head because we’ve got the squad to be pushing for semi finals, it’s just making everything click at the right time,” he said.
BAPTISM GIVES BOYD BELIEF AHEAD OF 2020 REBUILD
“I’ve been able to talk to a couple of players that know (Holbrook) and they’ve said he’s a really top bloke and definitely knows his footy. (His appointment) is a great thing.
“I’ve seen a few changes of coach at the Titans and it’s just one those things where it’s back to square one, all spots are up for grabs. You want to go out there and prove to yourself and your new coach that you are willing to put in the effort.”
