‘He’s a good chance’: Cameron Munster on track to face Eels as Storm winger cleared of injury after stunning performance

They’re already four points clear at the top, and the Storm is about to get even better with their most important player set to return from injury.

Superstar five-eighth Cameron Munster will need to get through two training sessions this week, with the Storm rating him a “good chance” of making his long-awaited return from an adductor injury that has kept him out since Magic Round.

Munster suffered a tear in the adductor tendon back in May during the Storm’s big win over Parramatta, with the champion five-eighth on track to return against the Eels on Friday night.

The 29-year-old has been limited to just seven appearances for the Storm this season and missed the entire State of Origin campaign for the Maroons but avoided surgery at the time, which meant he was always going to be back for the finals.

The Storm is four points clear at the top and could rest Munster against the 16th-placed Eels if he’s not fully fit, with Melbourne hosting the Dragons next Saturday night.

“He’s a good chance for Friday night, but he’s got to get through this week,” Storm head of football Frank Ponissi said.

“He’ll train today, he’ll train with the team tomorrow and then a decision will be made whether he’s included in the squad.”

The Storm has found a way to get the job done without their attacking maestro, with Tyran Wishart doing a fantastic job on the left edge, which is also without representative winger Xavier Coates.

That’s opened the door for Grant Anderson, who has been one of the most improved players in the NRL this season and has been cleared of a serious injury after he was helped from the field after full-time in the win over the Roosters.

Anderson scored a double on Saturday and pulled off a stunning try-saving tackle to deny Dom Young, with Ponissi crediting a round 27 recall last year for Anderson’s marked improvement.

“Scans cleared him of anything and he’s a chance of playing on Friday night. He just jarred the knee, so he’s all good,” he said.

“The improvement in him this year (has been remarkable). It probably started in the back end of last year when he got an opportunity in that last game against the Broncos when we rested a lot of players.

“I think he took a lot of confidence out of that game, and that’s the same game that Sua Fa’alogo made his debut.

“There’s some criticism about when you rest players, but seeing (what those two have done) is the benefit of it. He was probably the best player on the field that night and he’s carried that into this season.”
