The Gold Coast Titans headquarters closer resembles a ghost town than the buzzing hub of an NRL club weeks away from taking the field but that’s exactly the transformation underway at Parkwood.
Titans chief executive Steve Mitchell says the confirmation of a May 28 return-to-play date, with training to resume on May 4, is a shot of life for the club who last played on March 22.
Ensuring players and staff are protected against the COVID-19 virus will take top priority but excitement has rippled throughout the Titans organisation since news of their return broke on Wednesday.
“It’s a really exciting time for the organisation, our playing group, everyone inside the club, our corporate sponsors and our supporters,” Mitchell gushed.
“We’re excited to get back.
“It does give us enough time to get the playing squad ready with a three week preparation for the first round, and I’d like to compliment our State Government for driving the infection rate down (to make this possible).
“Their protocols and mitigating the risk of the spread of the virus over this period has been exceptional.”
The Titans will continue to train in isolation until their return to Parkwood in two weeks’ time.
