Gold Coast junior AJ Brimson has rejected overtures from Wests Tigers to sign a new deal locking his future to the Titans until the end of 2022.
The fullback’s signature is another step in the right direction for coach Justin Holbrook’s rebuild of the club, which began in earnest last week with the signing of winger Phillip Sami for the same period.
Holbrook said retaining talents like the 21-year-old Keebra Park product would define the team’s attitude to recruitment going forward.
“AJ is a perfect example of the Titans production line in action - a local junior who came through the club’s development system to play NRL in his hometown,” Holbrook said.
“AJ’s story is not unique to the club, because we are lucky to have a lot of local juniors here who have followed that path.
“But certainly AJ is another example of the template that we will use to take the Titans forward, on the back of the best talent produced in the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region.”

The retirement of veteran fullback Michael Gordon has presented a golden opportunity for Brimson to make the No. 1 jersey his own after a season spent shuffling around the playmaking spine.
With consistent selection at fullback Brimson rose to Australian consideration and won the World Cup 9s in Green and Gold.
“AJ is an exceptional young player as we all know, highlighted by the fact he is now on the radar of representative selectors,” Holbrook said.
“But importantly he is also an impressive young man and a quality human being who has a passion for this club and his community.”
Boom centre Latrell Mitchell is another talented backline prospect linked with the Titans in recent days, while the battle to secure Jai Arrow appears no closer to its conclusion.
