Former Melbourne Storm player Tye Alroe dies suddenly at a Gold Coast gym

Former Melbourne Storm player Tye Alroe has died while exercising inside a gym on the Gold Coast.

A Gold Coast developer and former Melbourne Storm player has died suddenly at a Burleigh Heads gym.

The Gold Coast Bulletin reported Tye Alroe, 39, was exercising at Forever Fitness Gym on Tuesday when he suffered a heart attack and could not be revived.

Mr Alroe is survived by his partner Nikki, daughter Poppy, his parents Vicki and John, and sister Courtney.

The developer had a brief stint with the Melbourne Storm in 2002, but never made his NRL debut, instead chasing his passion for building and construction.

He went on to form his own construction business before founding development company Alroe in 2012.

“My first job in construction taught me the importance of hard work, resilience and immersing myself in every aspect of the construction process – I learned quite quickly the significance of having a strong work ethic,” he told Ocean Road Magazine earlier this year.

“I am really grateful for where I am today. Alroe has grown into a strong, trusted company, and I’m really proud of the work we’re doing.”

Friends and colleagues paid tribute to Mr Alroe on social media, describing him as an incredible human.

Rob Bailey said he had nothing but respect and love for Mr Alroe, who was driven, passionate and positive.

“All our thoughts and love go to his family and our condolences,” he said.

“Please everyone, if you’re feeling a bit off, get to the doctor and make sure everything is okay.”

Construction industry figure Steve Hunt told the Bulletin Mr Alroe was a “rising star”.

“Tye was an exceptional businessman and an even better bloke,” he said.

“He was one of the rising stars of the Gold Coast development industry and was very well respected by all within the industry, including builders, tradespeople and contractors.

“The industry is devastated by the untimely passing of such an industry go-getter.”
