Every NRL club’s train and trial players heading in to the 2026 pre-season

Some are young guns destined for the bright lights in the future, while others are old heads desperate for another crack at first grade. We reveal every player on a train-and-trial deal for the 2026 pre-season.

Latrell fullback experiment over?

For some it is their last attempt at getting an NRL crack. For others it is their first opportunity to mix it with the big boys.

Michael Carayannis and Brent Read have detailed every player who is an NRL train and trial player. Some of these deals last just weeks. Others are season-long. Last year saw the likes of Gehamat Shibasaki rise from train and trial player to Queensland, Kangaroo and premiership winner. Other train and trial players from last year included Hugo Savala, Heasmasi Makasini, Ryley Smith and Ashton Ward. Shibasaki’s brother Jamal is looking to replicate his brother by joining the Broncos on a train and trial deal.

Train and trial players earn $1200 per week. They will pocket $3000 per first grade game they play, however they’re ineligible to be picked in first grade until round 11 — unless they win NRL approval.

A host of players with NRL experience have joined clubs for a trial including Michael Molo (Gold Coast) and Preston Riki (Broncos), while sons of guns also feature heavily, including Eddy Cayless (son of Nathan, Roosters), Aymonn Fitzgibbon (son of Craig, Bulldogs) and more.
