The jury which found Jarryd Hayne guilty of sexual assault were given a detailed drawing of the woman’s bedroom during the trial.

Detailed drawings have revealed the inside of the room where Jarryd Hayne sexually assaulted a woman during a fleeting encounter at her Newcastle home.

The eerie sketches were tendered to the jury during the 11-day NSW District Court trial to help them visualise the 46 minutes Hayne spent inside the house.

Hayne had just paid a taxi $550 to drive him to Sydney after a buck’s weekend when he decided to “pop into” the home of a woman he had been chatting with on Instagram for two weeks but had never met.

As he approached the house on Newcastle’s western outskirts at 9.07pm on September 30, 2018, he placed a half-drunk Vodka Cruiser bottle on the letterbox and approached the door.

He knocked on the door and was met with a then-26-year-old woman before being led into her bedroom.

While inside, he would sing an Ed Sheeran cover of Oasis’ Wonderwall in the hope of “breaking the ice” with the woman he hoped to have sex with in a “best-case scenario”, his NSW District Court trial was told.

But when he emerged 46 minutes later, he left the young woman bleeding with painful injuries to her vagina.

The sketches show the victim’s room at the front of the house, with a window showing a view of the front yard and street.

The hallway from the front door leads into the open-plan living room and kitchen, while her mother’s room is at the back of the house.

Another, even more detailed sketch, showed the victim’s room, the location of her bed and the location of blood from the assault.

More than five years after the meeting, Hayne was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault without consent following an 11-day trial in the NSW District Court.

During those 11 days, a jury of seven men and seven women – which was later balloted down to 12 people – heard all the evidence put against him.

Hayne consistently denied sexually assaulting the woman, claiming they engaged in consensual acts.

The jury was told the woman heard the taxi outside beeping in an attempt to alert Mr Hayne and moved to the window to see the car waiting for him.

She turned around and asked why the taxi was there, but got no reply from Hayne.

This moment was described in the trial as a “defining point” when the woman refused to consent to sex because of the taxi.

According to Crown prosecutor John Sfinas, she said in her evidence: “My heart dropped because I felt like he had only come there for one thing.”

She said the taxi’s presence made her feel like “absolute crap” and “sad and stupid for flirting with him to start”.

Mr Hayne briefly went outside to tell the taxi driver he would be a little while.

When he came back inside, instead of going to the victim’s room at the front of the house, Hayne walked straight past the doorway, down the hall and to the lounge room where her mother was watching the closing stages of the Sydney Roosters’ grand final victory over the Melbourne Storm.

Hayne stood next to the couch and watched the final moments of the game before yelling “go Roosters” and “I’m jealous”.

He eventually made his way back to the bedroom where he placed the knee of his 104kg frame on the bed and broke a slat.

The jury was told Hayne tried to kiss the victim and pushed her face into a pillow.

He forced her jeans off despite the woman’s efforts to keep them up, while she said “no” and “stop”.

She described his actions as “forceful”, “fast” and “rough” as he performed oral and digital sex on her, adding she said “no” and “no Jarryd” about three or four times.

The jury was told the woman tried to retreat up the bed as Hayne performed the sex acts on her for about 30 seconds.

It is alleged he only stopped when they realised the woman was bleeding from her genitalia.

Mr Hayne went into the bathroom, located to the right of the bed as seen in the drawing, to wash his hands before the woman got in the shower to clean off the blood.

When the woman came out of the shower, he said “I better go” before quickly leaving.

The drawing of the bedroom shows where the blood was located around the room after Hayne left.

Indications of blood can be seen on both of the pillows, as well as on the doona cover on the bed.

There is also indications of “diluted splashes of blood” on either side of the sink in the bathroom.

Hayne will face court on Thursday for a detention application by the Crown.
