Don't Trust Gus!: Is Galvin heading to the Bulldogs?

Broncos skipper Adam Reynolds has confirmed he has received an approach from the Wests Tigers as the Sydney club moves to cover for the impending loss of rising star Lachlan Galvin.

Reynolds is without a contract at the Broncos next season with the champion playmaker’s playing future remaining uncertain.

The Wests Tigers had denied any formal interest in Reynolds when contacted about rumours they were interested in the veteran playmaker a fortnight ago by this masthead.

However, the 34-year-old confirmed on Triple M Brisbane’s Rush Hour with Ben Dobbin and Elliott Lovejoy that the Sydney club had reached out to gauge his interest in a potential return to Sydney.

It comes as the Tigers prepare to grant Galvin permission to explore the market as early as Friday on the condition that any club interested in signing the teenager forks out a transfer fee in the region of $170,000.

It is understood talks were ongoing late on Thursday but Galvin is expected to get the green light to begin talks with clubs as early as Friday. In return for a release, Galvin is expected to drop his legal action against the Tigers over bullying claims.

The Tigers have already begun planning for life without Galvin, hence their interest in Reynolds.

“Yeah, there’s been interest,’’ Reynolds confirmed.

“There’s obviously talk about, but for me I’m trying to secure my future here at the Broncos.

“I’m sure everyone has read and is sick of hearing about it.

“For me it’s about letting the manager do all that sort of stuff in the background.

“Brisbane is home no matter what, for our family we’ve settled up here.

“The kids are happy, the wife is happy and when they’re right you have to do what is right.

“But we’ve got to be realistic, it’s about trying to work through certain scenarios, and keep a lot of (Broncos) players at the club, which isn’t easy.

“I certainly don’t want to force anyone out.

“It’s a slow process they’re working at in the background.

“You can’t make your mind up on the spot, you have to go through all the different scenarios, make sure that you’re happy with your decision.

“It’s a big commitment, wherever things end up.’’

Reynolds’ manager Steve Gillis has met with Broncos bosses in recent days and said the skipper will consider the Tigers if he can’t strike a new deal with Brisbane.

“We’ve had no offer from the Tigers at this stage,” he said.

“We’ve had a conversation with the Tigers and it was basically, ‘If he doesn’t get sorted at Brisbane and it doesn’t work out at Brisbane, we might have a chat’.

“That’s as far as it’s gone.

“There’s no offers, no formal negotiations of any kind, it’s simply been one conversation with the Tigers.

“’Reyno’ wants to stay at Brisbane and we’re trying to work through it.

“The Broncos have other players to get done first.

“Reyno has never hidden his desire to stay at Brisbane. It’s now his home. He has moved once and he doesn’t want to have to move again.”

Just two games away from 300 NRL appearances, Reynolds moved to the Broncos in 2022 after 10-years at the Rabbitohs, where he secured a 2014 premiership ring.

Confirmation by Reynolds of an approach from the Wests Tigers has emerged ahead of an anticipated early release of Galvin.

Galvin has another year remaining on his deal with the Tigers, but his management and the club are currently in talks about granting him permission to negotiate a new deal at a rival club.

Parramatta and the Bulldogs are expected to express an interest in the 19-year-old. The Dolphins had also been linked with Galvin but it is understood they are not in the mix for his signature.

The Tigers have the bye this weekend and Galvin is considered next to no chance of playing next week in Townsville against North Queensland given his desire to leave the club.

Galvin’s future could have ramifications for Parramatta five-eighth Dylan Brown, who has already agreed to join Newcastle next season on a $13 million mega-deal.

The Eels are among the favourites to sign Galvin but his arrival would likely mean Brown is squeezed out of the line-up to accommodate Galvin’s arrival.

It is understood the Knights would be open to taking Brown for the remainder of this season provided they can make it work under their salary cap.

Brown is on a deal believed to be worth around $900,000 this season but the Eels have already paid a fair chunk of his salary.

The Knights could fit some of his remaining salary under the cap, although not the entire amount. To make it work, Parramatta would need to chip in some of his salary for the rest of the year.

The Bulldogs, however, loom as the wildcard in the Galvin chase after head of football Phil Gould initially distanced the club from the teenager. The Bulldogs, however, have been reluctant to re-sign halfback Toby Sexton, fueling talk that they could sign Galvin to play alongside Matt Burton in the halves.
