Super Netball top 30: The best players in the country ranked

Already the league’s highest flyer, athletic defender Shamera Sterling-Humphrey has soared to no.1 on CODE Sports’ Super Netball rankings.

The 29-year-old was instrumental in the Adelaide Thunderbirds winning their second successive Super Netball campaign and had another outstanding international campaign, captaining Jamaica in the absence of Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard to a win over England and being named player of the four-match series.

Sterling-Humphrey’s position is likely to come as no surprise, with five of the eight Super Netball captains naming her as the best player in the league.

But there are a few shock absences from this year’s list.

Given it’s unknown whether or when Fowler-Nembhard will rejoin West Coast Fever after a devastating miscarriage earlier this year, the Jamaican great has not been included in the list.

The same is the case for Vixens defender Emily Mannix, who is expected to return at some stage this season after giving birth to her first child, daughter Mabel, in January.

Swifts co-captain Maddy Proud, who is pregnant with her first child, will miss the 2025 season and would also have made the list.

Mannix, whose performances for the Vixens earnt her an invitation into Diamonds camp last year before she revealed her pregnancy, would otherwise have been in the top 30, while Fowler-Nembhard remains a top five talent every day of the week and could well find herself in that echelon if and when she returns.

Three new entries this year go to incoming international talent, Imogen Allison (23), Mary Cholhok (10) and Grace Nweke, who rockets straight into the top three given her proven matchwinning qualities for the Silver Ferns.

All are proven international performers, whose consistency will be tested as the world’s best league enters its ninth season in 2025.
