Weeks out of retirement and just days away from her 40th birthday, veteran Casey Kopua has forced her way into CODE Sports team of the week.

Kopua played her third consecutive 60-minute match for the Giants, picking up five gains, including four rebounds, and six deflections, in her side’s upset of the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

But it’s not just Kopua’s own efforts that counted, with her mentorship of the Giants other young defenders Amy Sligar and Erin O’Brien equally outstanding.

Sligar also made the team of the week, with goal attack Sophie Dwyer giving the Sydney-based side three players in round 10 after they notched back-to-back wins for the first time in two years.

Their co-captain and goal shooter Jo Harten also pushed for honours but was beaten to it by Vixens shooter Sophie Garbin, whose outstanding showing helped the Vixens to a win over traditional rivals the Swifts.

Adelaide Thunderbirds defender Latanya Wilson’s move out to goal defence this week, after several rounds at the back in place of Shamera Sterling-Humphrey, was rewarded with a place, just ahead of Vixen Jo Weston.
