BOND UNIVERSITY BULL SHARKS

Sienna and Tehya Hyssett

Sienna will don the Bull Sharks colours for the first time in 2023 as an U16s player. Her older sister, Tehya, returns following a successful 2022 campaign as top age, and now joins the U18 ranks. The pair attend Stephen’s College in Upper Coomera and are key members of the school’s netball program. Tehya also captains the side. What’s more, both specialise in circle defence, making for a competitive sibling rivalry when it comes to selections.

IPSWICH JETS

Armani and Tianna Apelu

A talented duo who work at opposite ends of the court, Armani and Tianna are well established in the Jets ranks. Both took to court during the 2023 HART Ruby series, and have built a wealth of experience from the QISSN and Vicki Wilson Championships. Armani, a holding GS, will play for the U18s Jets while basketball-orientated defender Tianna will feature in the U16s.

SUNSHINE COAST THUNDER

Tahira and Kiesha Muckan

Neither Tahira or Keisha have made a Queensland squad in previous years, but the pair are tipped to step it up in 2023. Both Thunder sides are stacked with talent, and there is sure to be plenty of selector interest in them.

 GOLD COAST TITANS

Tyrah and Talitah Faifai

Sapphire sharpshooter and Firebirds Futures training partner Talitah Faifai has, no doubt, made a name for herself on court. She played an integral role in the side’s 2023 HART Sapphire series success and was a member of the Queensland U19s side as a bottom age player in April. Now she returns for her final year, with a younger sister following suit. Also found in the attacking circle, Tyrah is tipped to catch selectors’ eyes when she represents Titans in the U16s.

The second Titans duo, Maddy and Roxy, are one set of twins and part of the Titans Academy side which recently won the EPL Opens division. They are now prepped to hit the court in style for Nissan State Titles. While neither was named in last year’s Queensland side, we expect to hear the surname a lot more in 2023/24.

CARINA LEAGUES TIGERS

Abbey and Sophia Dobson

The Tigers’ Dobson sisters are no strangers to the spotlight. Sophia has donned the Queensland dress every year since 2021, and quickly rose through the HART Ruby and Sapphire ranks as a diverse defender. She’s capable of playing GK, GD and WD whenever needed, which is no doubt why coaches love her. Younger sister Abby returns for her second year in U16s and is eager to make her first Queensland squad. Playing primarily GK/ GD, will she end up following in her sister’s footsteps?

BRISBANE NOTH COUGARS

Jayden and Tia Molo

Cougars sisters Jayden and Tia are taking the netball world by storm. Both represented Queensland at the National Netball Championships in April, with Jayden going on to be named in the Australian squad. Tia returns in 2023 as top age in the U16s while Jayden takes to court for her final year in U18s, and her final year of Nissan State Titles. Will the pair continue their reign? With a star-studded Cougars line-up in both age groups, it’s likely.

Rio and Marlie Burns at Cougars

Introducing our second set of twins, from the Cougars U16s ranks. Both Marley and Rio were training partners in 2023 for the HART Ruby series, but were busy with South Coast and Somerset College duties. Rio is capable of playing both wing positions, primarily WA, while Marlie looks after the shooting circle. Neither have donned the maroon dress before, but as top age, they have a real shot at cracking it in 2023.

MIX IT UP

Julianna Tamala (L) and Kaylee Tamala (R) of Canterbury College

Kaylee (Tigers U18) and Julianna (Wildcats U16) Tamala

Unlike our other siblings, the Tamalas will be wearing different colours at this year’s championships. In 2023, Kaylee shone in her first year as a full-time HART Ruby Tigers player and was a consistent performer against the competition’s strongest defence. Julianna might be fresh on the scene, but her role in the Wildcats U16s side is tipped to make a difference. Both are eager to be selected in the Queensland squad with Kaylee hoping to go one step further this time round and make the final 16 cut for nationals.

Brooke (L) and Renee (R) Marchant (twins) of Titans Netball and Carina Leagues Tigers

Brooke (Titans U18) and Renee (Tigers U18) Marchant

The Marchant twins round out our sisterhood as the third set of twins, and second ‘mix it up’ duo. Brooke plays GA, WA and C and made the Under 16s Qld squad last year. Meanwhile Renee is new on the scene. She was part of the Tigers academy in 2023, plays across the mid-court in WA and C and WD and this year will be her first Nissan State Titles.
