Both teams finished first and second on the ladder with Broadbeach gaining the upper hand in the first qualifying final winning by one shot to elevate them straight into the grand final. Tweed then had to play the winner out of third and fourth with Helensvale getting up over Beenleigh.
Aussie legend Kelvin Kerkow’s rink led the way for Tweed against Helensvale defeating them by 16 shots overall to set up a mouth-watering rematch against Broadbeach in the grand final.
Broadbeach led for the first half until the score was 46-39 after 40 ends. Tweed then made their move to take the lead 49-48 after 45 ends and then went out to lead 59-49 after 53.
Broadbeach refused to give up and made a surge to regain the lead by a shot with four ends to play. Four shots to Tweed over the next two ends gave them a three-shot lead with two ends to play.
One to Broadbeach saw them trail by two going into the last end where Tweed held their nerve to pick up one shot and claim the title.
Kerkow’s rink of John Bain, Dan Smith and Scott DeJongh proved the difference once again, defeating Ryan Bester rink by five shots, which also included playing the final couple of ends to protect their lead. Dan Smith replaced Nigel Smith who had played both previous finals games but was unavailable for the grand final.
Wayne Turley had a draw with Kevin Anderson and Kurt Brown lost to Ryan Burnett by two shots.
