TUGUN have issued a statement of intent with Rugby League Gold Coast’s A grade finals looming, putting second-placed Southport to the sword in today’s penultimate-round battle at Tugun.
Entering Round 20 clinging desperately to fourth place, the Seahawks produced arguably their best performance of the season to prevail 32-0.
It was a second-straight heavy defeat for the visitors after falling 52-10 to Burleigh in last weekend’s top-of-the-table encounter, and gives third-placed Currumbin a slim chance to leapfrogging them in the final round.
The Seahawks were rarely troubled in the seven-tries-to-nil mauling of the Tigers, with Rory Lilis (two), Macauley Dawson, Troy Canning, Tim Cassidy, Sam Latu and Ethan Roberts all finding the line.
At Pizzey Park today, minor premiers-in-waiting Burleigh ran riot in a 64-12 thumping of last-placed Ormeau, with Te Rangiatea McDonald, Regan Ogle and Shawn Anderson bagging doubles.
Runaway Bay were 56-14 winners at home to Bilambil on Saturday.
