TOBY Sexton and Jed Edwards have been identified as the key leaders in Palm Beach Currumbin’s NRL Schoolboy Cup national championship defence.
With half of the Reds’ team graduating at the end of last year including superstar halfback and captain Tom Dearden, there will be plenty of new faces in Aaron Zimmerle’s 2019 top squad.
Sexton will shift from five-eighth into the No.7 jersey, while Edwards remains a pivotal cog at hooker.
“We haven’t named a captain but I am quite happy to say that we have two great leaders in both Jed Edwards and Toby Sexton,” Zimmerle said.
WHY PBC AREN’T SAYING ‘BACK TO BACK’
“As it stands at the moment, they are the blokes who are driving this group to be as good as they can be.
“And then you have got some people like a Josh Bevan who is an on-field leader just with the way he plays, his intensity and his aggression.
“Our leadership group I think is quite rich, just because we have got so many of those kids that got that experience last year of winning.”
PBC will announce a captain in the second term of school.
