The Southport School will be crowned GPS First XI premiers next weekend after accounting for a fighting Ipswich Grammar School in Ipswich today.

Ipswich Grammar pushed TSS to the brink, almost pulling off an upset win as tailender Mitchell Harsant took IGS to 171 chasing 8-181.

“It was a fantastic match,’’ said TSS director of cricket Steve Baker.

“We found a way to win again.’’

TSS will finish the season next weekend with a bye, but cannot be overtaken by either second placed St Joseph’s Nudgee College or third placed St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace.

“It is a beautiful team. It is not full of stars, but they find a way each time.

“The biggest thing is everyoine puts their hand up at a different time.

“All the pieces fit. They have for two years. They deserve all the credit they receive.’’
