The North Gold Coast Seahawks have found their voice on and off the court, writing their own team song

Whether it’s club songs in AFL, victory songs in rugby league, supporter chants or raps, sporting clubs have a special relationship but the North Gold Coast Seahawks have taken it to the next level.
After realising the fledging QBL franchise didn’t have a team song, three senior players, Jordan Baleikatuba, Robert Linton and Tom Howard, decided that the Seahawks needed something to squawk after a win.
“We’d all experienced team songs at different clubs and knew they were part of team bonding and a reward for winning a game but then we found out that the Seahawks didn’t have one,” said Howard.
“Rob Linton had organised a pre-season trip down to Coffs Harbour for us to play a few games so on the trip down, we sat there for two hours throwing ideas around and had a draft by the time we got to Woodburn.
“We honestly just started spit balling and throwing ideas back and forth while trying to incorporate the Seahawks and basketball terminology and trying to make it all rhyme.”
The three players then presented their creation to the team and led a few practice renditions before the team got to sing it for real on day two of the pre-season camp after winning a practice match.

“The guys responded really positively to the song,” said Howard.
“A lot of the guys hadn’t experienced anything like it but most other teams have a song for that sense of pride and it really solidifies a win and makes it real.”
With a team song now in place, the Seahawks didn’t have to wait long to belt it out with their first win of the QBL season coming in round one against the Cairns Marlins.
Unfortunately the boys from Runaway Bay have only had two more chances to sing their song this season, with the most recent being last Saturday night after defeating the Sunshine Coast Phoenix on their home court.

“A road win is always a big win and I lost my voice during the game but we were screaming our lungs out and smashing the walls,” Howard said.
“Earl (US import Earl Jones) didn’t know the words so Andy (team manger Andy Price) has printed off a few A3 pieces of paper with the words that we sing off.”
“We play to sing the song.”
The Seahawks will have another chance to sign their song tonight when they play the Brisbane Capitals in Brisbane (women at 5pm followed by men at 7pm).
