The Gold Coast Stingrays believe they can take out the Sunbowl in 2019 as they prepare to take on the Ravens

Three wins in the opening five rounds of the South East Queensland Gridiron Women’s league is enough to convince Stingray’s quarterback Lauren Evans that her side can go all the way in 2019.

THREE wins in the opening five rounds of the South East Queensland Gridiron Women’s league is enough to convince Stingrays’ quarterback Lauren Evans that her side can go all the way in 2019.

WHY IT’S SUNBOWL OR BUST FOR STINGRAYS

The Coast side have dropped two games so far this year, both against the Thunder, but Evans believes the Stingrays are firmly in Sunbowl contention.

“This is the season we can take it out,” she said.

“We’ve got a lot of experienced players in each line and an all-female coaching line up.

“Between the leaders we have and the coaches, we’re playing ironman football where we do it for each other.”

The 34-year-old believes it’s the Stingrays’ offensive line which will give them the edge over their opposition.

“We have a killer offensive and defensive line but we have a lot of experience on the offensive line,” she said.

“They’re tasked with protecting me and we have some really strong ball runners as well who we’ve built up to have great carry which we’ve seen already.”

Tomorrow the Stingrays take on the Ravens with both sides sharing an identical win loss record.

The sides have met once previously this season in round four when the Stingrays claimed a 28-20 win but Evans believes it will be a different ball game this week.

“I think it’s going to be an offensive shoot out,” she said.

“It’s going to be the team who takes their opportunities.

“We beat them last time we played them but both teams have a very different squad this year.”
