IT was a battle between the team who peaked at exactly the right time of the year and the team who had been the yardstick all season - and the former won.
After claiming the minor premiership and only dropping three games all season, the Burleigh Bombettes lost by an agonising four points to the Kedron Lions in the QFAW division one decider.
The teams went goal for goal much of the day as Burleigh got out to a six-point lead at the half though were overpowered by the Lions after half time in their maiden Grand Final appearance, eventually going down 42-38 in a thriller.

“The game went both ways all day,” said coach Brent Male.
“Kedron lifted late in the game and had a bit more run towards the end.
“Our intensity at the contest was great all day as was our tackling pressure.
“Hats off to them.
“From being out of the finals to pushing Morningside out and working their way through is an exceptional effort.”
Despite falling short in the season decider, Male believes the Bombettes will only come back stronger next year as a result of the heartbreak.

“We’ll take a lot out of the season,” he said.
“The girls will be hurting for the next 48 hours but we’ve always said we take a lot out of our losses.
“We’ll leave it a little while until we look into this one but we’ll learn a lot from it and build towards next year.”
Rebecca Fitton was dangerous all day, nabbing one goal in the first quarter while Jessie Jamieson top scored with two.
