WITH Broadbeach Robina’s grand final win wrapping up another Kookaburra Cup campaign, the Bulletin runs the rule over the competition to deliver its Team of the Season.
Nic Peterson (Southport Labrador)
Rated the competition’s best player in the Bulletin ’s captain’s poll earlier this season, the classy left-hander finished second on the runscoring table with 666 at an average of 39.18.
Phil Tunnicliffe (Coomera Hope Island)
The powerful Kiwi finished well clear at the top of the runs tally with 742 at 43.65, to go with 28 wickets at 14.36.
Tom Scriven (Broadbeach Robina)
The Cats’ one-man finals wrecking ball collected a competition-high 40 wickets at 15.48 – including hauls of 6-37 and 7-43 in the playoffs – and made 457 runs at 35.15.
Rhys McCarthy (c) (Burleigh)
While his performances dipped after Christmas, the Bullsharks’ batting backbone still amassed a more-than-handy 574 runs at 47.83.
Kaleb Day (wk) (Helensvale Pacific Pines)
Day came of age in a disappointing season for the 2017-18 grand finalists, finishing fifth on the runscoring chart with 462 at 35.33, including 101 against Runaway Bay.
Dayne Siede (Mudgeeraba Nerang)
The Bushmen veteran was at his reliable best throughout the campaign, making 527 runs at 31, highlighted by four half-centuries.
Shane Connors (Alberton Ormeau)
A key figure in the Hurricanes charge to the grand final, Connors took 33 wickets at the remarkable average of 10.24 and made 430 runs at 28.66.
Sam Winton (Queens)
Always a threat with the ball, Winton led the Centaurs attack with 28 wickets at 14.39.
Michael Waldren (Surfers Paradise)
The new wooden spooners had little to celebrate in 2018-19, but Waldren (26 wickets at 21.12) can hold his head high.
Stuart Frost (Runaway Bay)
Frost was one of few bright spots in a tough Seagulls season, with a season-best haul of 6-25 against Mudgeeraba Nerang helping him to 27 wickets at 21.07.
Luke Mussett (Palm Beach Currumbin)
The Lions narrowly missed a finals spot and Mussett, with 33 wickets at 18.73, was one of the big reasons why.
