AN all Gold Coast clash is set for the Greater Brisbane League as Coomera Cubs take on Surfers Paradise this week.

In their first games after Christmas, the coast pair will go head to head 7.30pm tonight at Beenleigh and 1.30pm on Sunday at Surfers.

Reigning champions Surfers will be looking to redeem themselves in the second half of the season.

After a patchy first half the team sits at the bottom of the ladder with only five wins from 21 games.

Coach Matt Corbitt said Surfers will be looking to make a fresh start after the much-needed break.

“We’re looking forward to getting back into it and keen for the second half (of the season) and to put the first half behind us,” he said.

“We started back up last week after the breather which everyone needed, but the players are keen.”

The last game before the break was washed out, leaving Surfer’s hungry for a win.

Corbitt said the team will receive a boost heading into the second half of the season.

“We’re excited, it’s a new year and we’ll have Connar O’Gorman returning, who hasn’t played for us for five years,” he said.

O’Gorman has since played for Adelaide Bite in the Australian Baseball League and in the US.

Heading into this week’s game against Coomera Corbitt isn’t focusing on the possible outcome, just on the team playing their best.

“We need to go out there and get our business done and hopefully the result favours us,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Cubs sit only two spots higher with eight wins, six games behind top placed Redcliffe Padres.
