SURFERS Paradise captain Andy Finn believes Helensvale have the potential to pull off the ultimate grand final heist in tomorrow’s Gold Coast District Rugby Union decider.
The Dolphins back-rower has had a first-hand look at grand final combatants Helensvale and Griffith University Colleges in this year’s finals series, having fallen to the Knights 41-0 in the major semi before going down to the Hogs 10-7 last weekend.
THE KEY TO KNIGHTS’ GCDRU DOMINATION
While the Knights will enter tomorrow’s 4.10pm encounter at Bond University as the minor premiers and defending champions, Finn said they would be wary of a Hogs side chasing a maiden A grade crown.
“Colleges thumped us 41-0 so I’d say Colleges were the favourites but Helensvale may turn up and dig a result out like (they did against us),” the 27-year-old said.
“They beat us in the ruck. They were a lot quicker to the ball and controlled that situation a lot better than we did.
“We had a lot of one-man runners and we paid the price of not having support there with them, so we let ourselves down in that respect. They just outplayed us really in that area of the game.
THE SEMINAL MOMENT IN HOGS’ PREMIERSHIP QUEST
“It all depends on that territory and ball possession (against Colleges). If Helensvale do what they did to us they’re more than a chance.”
Colleges got the better of the Hogs 26-12 when they last met, in the final round of the regular season on July 27.
