THE Gold Coast baseball community is mourning the loss of one of its brightest talents, who has died in a car accident.
Ashley Anderson’s death on the weekend has sent widespread shockwaves throughout the sport, with the 17-year-old sharing links to multiple clubs and representative teams.
Anderson was the starting catcher for the Surfers Paradise Greater Brisbane League Division 1 side and was a former Beenleigh Hawks player.

He was part of Baseball Queensland’s Performance Pathway Program for several years and was recently named in the Australian under-18 World Cup training squad after impressing with the Queensland under-18 side.
“His outlook on life, determination towards his development and infectious smile was a major influence on many players and coaches throughout Baseball Queensland,” a statement by Baseball Queensland read.
“Baseball Queensland extends our condolences to Amber, Cliff, Leah and Jade.”
Surfers Paradise also sent their condolences to the family and thanked fellow Gold Coast clubs for their support.
“Our hearts are broken with the news that Ashley Anderson tragically passed away in a car accident on the weekend,” the statement read.
“We would like to thank this wonderful baseball community of ours for all the messages of support for our club and for Ash’s teammates, coaches and friends.
“We would also like to thank the Coomera Cubs Baseball Club for their support and sharing the day with us (on Sunday) as our respective teams managed, somehow, to find the strength to play on in honour of Ash. So proud of you guys.

“Thanks also to the Twin City Baseball Club and Mudgeeraba Baseball Club for your support on the day.”
A Gofund me page has been set up for Anderson’s family and the Gold Coast Baseball Association asked people to support it.
“Ashley was a staple of the Gold Coast Baseball Community with active representation in every age division and coaching the 2020 Little League Girls to a State Championship gold medal,” a statement read.
"If you would like to support the Anderson Family as they work through this difficult time please donate. AA #18 #42 #smileforever.”
