JIMMY Spargo says his new coaching role at Queens has come as “second nature” but finding the balance with his own game is a juggling act he is yet to master.

A decorated Queensland Country representative and former Queensland Premier Cricket veteran, Spargo has taken on the player-coaching role at the Cricket Gold Coast powerhouse this season following Greg Little’s departure as coach.

The Centaurs opened their pre-season Twenty20 campaign with a 12-run loss to Broadbeach Robina last Saturday, with the 32-year-old opener falling for five in his side’s total of 9-107.

As they prepare for their Round 2 battle with Coomera Hope Island at Alberton today, Spargo said he would need to find a happy medium between his competing roles.

“(It’s been) tough so far,” Spargo, a teacher at Arundel’s AB Paterson College, said.

“I think once I settle a bit more into the role I’ll be able to delegate and focus more on my own training. It’s definitely something I’ve got to learn to do.

“(Coaching) is something I’ve always done since I was a teenager and I’ve really enjoyed it (at Queens). Being a teacher, it’s kind of second nature and something I want to pursue a bit more.”
