ATTACKING linchpin Kate Webb says Southport are primed to step up their Brisbane Women’s Premier League finals quest against Coomera today after “finding their feet” in the opening rounds of the season.
Sitting eighth with a game in hand on most teams, the Warriors will jump at least one place with victory over the seventh-placed Colts in their 5pm encounter at Viney Park.
Southport’s last-start 4-1 win over Virginia United on April 6 ended a run of three-straight losses, with Webb adamant their tough initiation to the Brisbane competition will pay dividends in the long run.
COACH MILOSEVIC OPENS UP ABOUT TWEED FUTURE
“Definitely we were finding our feet a little bit at the start. We didn’t really know much about (the league) and weren’t as mentally prepared as we hoped but now we’re a few weeks in and have played a few games, we’re a lot more grounded,” the 33-year-old, in her third season at Southport, said.
“I’ve really enjoyed it. I think it’s what we needed on the Gold Coast because you’re playing a different team each week and … it’s exciting.
“They’re definitely a lot more physical and they’re a lot fitter but I think you match how other teams play so if you’re playing a hard team you bring yourself up automatically. I think we’ve done pretty well.
RED-HOT RABBITS READY FOR COLTS
“We had a win just before the Easter break and that gave us a lot of confidence so we’re looking forward to playing on Saturday against a Gold Coast team and coming away with a win.”
In other Round 8 fixtures, Broadbeach United visit Peninsula Power at 5pm while, while Robina City travel to Annerley.
