Ryan Biscoe and Jamie Laga among key additions for Palm Beach Currumbin Alleygators

ALLEYGATORS coach Anthony Dwyer believes his team are way ahead of where they were at this time last year as a fresh start draws closer.

The 2018 Gold Coast District Rugby Union season proved difficult for Palm Beach Currumbin but they’re hopeful of bigger and better things after recruiting on and off the field.

Along with marquee signing Ethan Lolesio, the club have brought in a number of players from interstate that either are on their way or have already arrived, as is the case for Ryan Biscoe and Jamie Laga.

Biscoe is an English workhorse whose 2018 at Bangalow was disrupted by a foot injury. The openside flanker moved north in search of a higher level of competition and is expected to be available for their Round 1 home match against Helensvale on April 6.

Laga meanwhile is a hooker and loosehead prop who has joined from Parramatta.

“Guys who have had experience at that higher level have a different work ethic,” Dwyer said.

“We’re not pretending we’re a Super Rugby side but we want blokes who want to take it seriously and give it their all so guys like Jamie help to establish that standard.”

Despite other clubs previously raising concerns about Palm Beach’s numbers, Dwyer insists they are better organised and resourced this time around.

“Certainly I feel like we’re entering the start of the season with our heads high that we want to take people on; not sheepishly hoping that things don’t go too badly,” he said.
