A REVAMPED Rugby League Gold Coast transfer system has been unveiled to cope with the increase in player movement created by Tweed Heads’ exit from the competition.
The total points allowance for recruitment has been raised from 100 to 120 per team, with concessions also brought in relating to Seagulls players not featuring in their Intrust Super Cup program next year.
Each club will be granted a free transfer for both an A-grade and under-20 Tweed player, as well as being able to dual register four players in each of Tweed’s 2019 ISC and under-20 squads.
“Tweed’s ISC team, they will contract approximately 30 players,” RLGC manager Scott Dunshea explained.
“So out of that 30 players, pencil in 13 that are not going to play each week – reality says that is not always going to be the case – but the Rugby League Gold Coast clubs can have four portabilities from Tweed for no points.
“We’re making sure we try to spread that talent around so not one club can gain complete advantage of having an association with Tweed, for example.
“We think that’s the fairest way there. And increasing the points allows the clubs to recruit more players as well.”
Furthermore, the Seagulls will select a top 12 for 2019 whose allegiances will be divided up between the RLGC clubs except Burleigh. Those players are unlikely to play at a level below ISC but if need be, can represent their designated RLGC team without affecting their transfer cap.
