Robina’s Serena Davidson discusses the Brisbane Women’s Premier League campaign in the Round Ball Round Up podcast

THE excitement surrounding their Brisbane Women’s Premier League expedition is keeping morale high at Robina City, as captain Serena Davidson discusses in this week’s Round Ball Round Up podcast.

THE excitement surrounding their Brisbane Women’s Premier League expedition is keeping morale high at Robina City as they look to put their debut disaster behind them.

Appearing in the BWPL for the first time last weekend, the Gold Coast’s perennial female football powerhouse battled a player shortage before succumbing to Peninsula Power 6-0.

However, captain Serena Davidson said the experience had only fuelled the side’s competitive drive ahead of tomorrow’s home fixture against Ipswich City.

ON-FIELD RESPONSIBILITIES JUST THE START FOR DUO

“I think (the competition is) a good breath of fresh air right now,” defender Davidson said in the latest edition of the Bulletin’s Round Ball Round Up podcast.

“For me it’s really exciting because every game is going to be new, it’s going to be different, you’re not going to know what players to look for or the style of play until you’ve played a team again. It’s a really good challenge that we’re looking forward to.

“We’ve had a lot of changes with people coming and going – we’ve got basically two entire new squads and new coaching staff – so a bit of a rocky start and not had the time that we would like (together). I think it will definitely be a bit of learning curve for us, having a bunch of players that have never played together coming from other clubs, coming from overseas.

MURWILLUMBAH ADDRESS WITHDRAWAL RUMOURS

“We’ve got a lot of talent and a lot of potential but it’s just getting everything to work together. I can see it happening in training so I think we will get there.

“Playing all new teams, you never know what to expect so even though (Round 1 was) not what we were hoping for, it’s good to get out and play and start the competition.”

Originally from New Mexico in the US, Davidson is among only a handful of players remaining from the Robina side that reached last season’s Gold Coast Premier League grand final.

She said while Paul Rushton’s decision to step down as coach was a loss, replacement Ian Shaw had brought new perspective to the group.

QUEST FOR PERFECTION CONTINUES

“They’ve reacted really well (to Ian),” Davidson said of the players.

“They really like his coaching style, his manner of delivery, the way that he presents the style of play that he wants and the direction he’s trying to get the team to go in. It’s really good to see the potential.”
