ROBINA City’s admirable debut Brisbane Women’s Premier League campaign is the culmination of five years of off-field toil, according to president Paul Rushton.
An emerging powerhouse of female football on the Gold Coast in recent years, the Rabbits have transferred that success to the Brisbane competition in 2019 as they look to sign off with a win away to last-placed North Brisbane at 6pm tonight.
‘THEY NEED A GOOD, HARD LOOK AT THEMSELVES’
A final-round victory could lift them to sixth place, a finish that appeared unlikely when they were thrashed 6-0 by Peninsula Power in the season opener.
Rushton said the recipe for success was simple.
“We’ve been building every year for five years,” he said.
“We’ve got 700 players – that’s the second-biggest club on the Gold Coast – and that’s up from 387 in 2014. We’ve also had unprecedented junior success for our club this year.”
Sitting fifth, Coomera will enter their 5pm encounter at home to ladder-leading The Lakes knowing defeat could end their top-four hopes.
WALLABIES HOP OUT OF TOP FLIGHT
The Colts (35 points) have a game in hand on fourth-placed Annerley (36 points) but defeat, coupled with an Annerley win at home to Broadbeach United at 6pm, would make that fixture inconsequential.
