Twelve months after goalkeeper Mahalia Bromfield emerged as the heroine in a penalty-shootout win over Musgrave, Robina were again celebrating following a dramatic shootout against Southport at Broadbeach.

With scores locked at 0-0 at the end of extra time, Robina claimed their second-straight Coast League grand final with a 3-1 win from the spot.

Bromfield, who helped Robina reach yesterday’s Premier League grand final with a last-gasp penalty save against Southport in the preliminary final, again made a crucial stop with scores locked at 1-1.

TITLE HOPEFULS’ UNSUNG HEROES

Robina co-captain Alicia Sawtell said the experiences of last season had proven crucial in their 2018 triumph.

“We don’t crack under pressure with the penalties. (I was confident) because of last year’s grand final,” the 18-year-old defender said.

“We’ve been practising (penalties) in our training so I was confident enough the girls could do it. I was hoping that we’d just score in the first 90 minutes but … when it went to penalties, we all had the confidence in ourselves to do penalties and it’s shown.

CLUB FUTURE NOW RESTING IN COUNCIL HANDS

“Throughout the season we’ve had our ups and downs but we’ve stuck together really well and our coach (Paul Rushton) has helped us every step of the way.

“I’m really proud of the girls, they pushed through. We just want to bring that momentum forward, keep the girls going through the off-season keep our touch up and I’m sure we can do it again next year.”
