Rhys Finn and Dayne Siede lift Mudgeeraba Nerang to victory over Runaway Bay

Rhys Finn has gone from villain to hero in the space of seven days to help Mudgeeraba Nerang to a clutch win over Runaway Bay in the Kookaburra Cup.

RHYS Finn has gone from villain to hero in the space of seven days to help Mudgeeraba Nerang to a clutch win over Runaway Bay in the Kookaburra Cup.

Last Saturday, Palm Beach Currumbin batsman Zane Beattie smacked three sixes off the final over of the day, bowled by Finn, to secure an unlikely outright victory.

But the pace-bowling all-rounder has bounced back in style, hitting an unbeaten 38 off 32 balls to guide the Bushmen to a nail-biting one-wicket victory this afternoon at Nerang RSL Oval.

Bay skipper Lydon Gibbons top scored with 47 against his former club to help the orange caps post a competitive 8-178.

Mudgeeraba lost wickets relatively regularly in reply and looked in particular trouble when captain Dayne Siede, who had earlier taken 3-25, fell for a well-made 53.

That wicket took the score to 6-123 and brought Finn to the crease.

Finn and Casey Murphy (11) combined for a 28-run stand to give the hosts hope, and they ultimately snuck across the line at 9-179 with six balls to spare.

Young Bay spinner Peter Lynch shone in vain with figures of 4-16 off six overs.

With their fourth victory of the summer, Mudgeeraba remain well in the hunt for a top four berth heading into the Christmas break.

In another thriller, Helensvale Pacific Pines hung on to defeat Surfers Paradise by six runs at David Johnston Oval.
