JASON Campbell is making no secret of Gold Coast United’s 2020 intentions, claiming the NPL squad has the talent “to match it with the best in the league”.
A reliable midfield cog in the United side that finished seventh in this year’s NPL, Campbell re-signed with the club last week and is adamant they can push for a top-four berth next season.
“Early in the season we matched it and bettered most of the other clubs,” the 22-year-old Alstonville product said.

“We were all pretty disappointed with the back end of 2019 but the intent is clear with the signings already. Sam Smith (from Gold Coast Knights) and Jamey Vesey (from Logan Lightning) are two big signings for us, they bring a ton of experience and quality.
“I really want to keep pushing myself and I know if collectively we all do that, then this squad has the talent and depth to match it with the best in the league. We’ll be right amongst it for sure.”

The Surfsiders sat fifth midway through the season but won just four of their last 16 games, including nine losses, to finish a whopping 20 points adrift of fourth-placed Olympic.
Coach Kristian Rees said the re-signing of Campbell would go a long way to helping his side rectify their mistakes next year.
“I spent some time playing with Jason at Palm Beach and Gold Coast City,” the former A-League defender said.

“I feel if Jason continues to apply himself the way he has been then sky is the limit for him.”
