BILLY STANLAKE
Gold Coast product has claimed a place in Australia’s one-day and T20 squads and is tipped for even bigger things. Fitness permitting, Stanlake is one the fans want to see more of.
DELISSA KIMMINCE
The batting allrounder, who plays for the Gold Coast Dolphins, has been around the Australian camp for a long time but the rising status of women’s cricket means she will continue to inspire future generations.
MATT BEVILACQUA
Kurrawa ironman threatens to take over from outgoing great Shannon Eckstein as one of the faces of the Nutri-Grain Series in 2019. The 25-year-old, originally from Tasmania, has steadily improved his results.
JAI ARROW
Titans forward, 23, has just broken into the Queensland Origin team and has been touted as a future leader at club level. His value – and influence – will only increase on the Gold Coast.
COREY WEYER
Labrador defender, 21, made his Kookaburras debut in November but looks destined for a growing role with the national side. Missed a home Commonwealth Games spot but is a future star in the sport.
ASHLEIGH GENTLE
Triathlete, 27, has enjoyed growing prominence buoyed by a breakthrough win in the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Series. Also took gold in the mixed team relay at the Commonwealth Games.
SIMONA DE SILVESTRO
Swiss driver comes with international pedigree and is now trailblazing in the Supercars world for females. Popular 29-year-old is the frontrunner to switch from Nissan to heavyweights Triple Eight to replace Craig Lowndes.
ROSIE MALONE
Now lives in Perth but the 20-year-old striker blazed her way to Hockeyroos honours via the Gold Coast. Missed Commonwealth Games selection but the former under-17 Australian football player was last week part of the women’s hockey World Cup in London.
JOEL MCINNES
Largely slips under the radar but the general manager of the booming Gold Coast Basketball Association promises to take on an increasingly significant role in the coming years. With dreams of an NBL return to the region, McInnes will be a vital cog in the franchise bid.
JACK MARTIN
With Tom Lynch’s future in Melbourne, the Suns will rely on their next generation of stars in 2019. The 23-year-old indigenous midfielder has now played more than 50 AFL games and is entering his prime and could become a face of the club.
