Anthony was not surprisingly in the thick of the niggle throughout his side’s 34-point victory, at one stage engaging in a slanging match with Cats supporters on the boundary.

However, the 30-year-old power forward, who kicked 83 goals in 51 AFL games for Collingwood and Fremantle, had the last laugh with five majors and a best-on-ground performance.

The Lions got the better of the Cats in all four meetings this season but Anthony admitted there was little separating the sides.

“Against Broadbeach, we’ve played three or four games this year and they’ve all been very close. Obviously out on the ground there’s a lot of argey bargey but there’s a lot of respect after it,” he said.

“Broadbeach are tough opponents; they have a strong supporter base and some great players. To win it against quality opposition, who we always have good battles against, it’s full respect to (Broadbeach).

“It’s been 25 years since I played in a premiership, so it’s been a long time coming.”
