THE success of two Gold Coast mountain bike races has organisers set to roll out a host of events across Queensland.
Mountain bike race organiser Rocky Trail Entertainment broke new ground earlier this month by hosting the Gold Coast Schools Comp and Fox Superflow race at Nerang National Park, the first the group had held outside of NSW and the ACT.
Organisers have now confirmed that there are plans to roll out a set of school-specific events within a year.
Nerang State High School was the patron host of the Gold Coast Schools Comp on November 1 that featured around 100 students from 19 different schools, with Palm Beach Currumbin State High School being crowned the champions ahead of Byron Bay High and Hillcrest Christian College.
“It provided a great opportunity for our students to race against each other in a friendly, fun and very social format,” Nerang High mountain bike sports co-ordinator Michael Cooper said.
“While students raced each stage individually, they were still racing together as a school for the overall school title. This was by far the most enjoyable school activity our students have participated in this year.”
Benowa’s Corey Edwards, 46, was the outright men’s winner of the Fox Superflow race on November 3, finishing the race in a time of 15 minutes and 33 seconds while Brisbane’s Michelle Gane was the fastest female, finishing in 18:37.2.
Along with elite and expert skills classifications, the race offered age groups ranging from 13 years and up as well as an e-Bike category.
